AIM(S): To provide learners with the basic skills in order to offer emergency assistance for those identified as requiring it.

 

 

OBJECTIVES: Learners will be able to:

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of a first aider and appointed person, how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others and the need for consent to provide first aid
  • To discuss and demonstrate the DRABCD approach to managing first aid
  • Demonstrate the following:
  • adult CPR using a manikin
  • placing a casualty into the recovery position
  • monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position
  • Identify and demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is:
  • Choking
  • Displaying signs of a seizure
  • Presenting with an external bleed
  • suffering from shock
  • Presenting with different types of wounds, minor burns and scolds
