We would like to highlight Marian Dixey for winning the Trustee of the Year Award at the Cardiff Volunteer Awards 2022.
Marian is a trustee for the charity ACE – Action in Caerau and Ely and goes above and beyond in this role, going out of her way to provide additional support for the board and staff team as needed as well as giving her time to a number of other ACE projects to help the local community.
Marian is a regular volunteer at the Pantry project, working hard to provide good-quality food for the community at affordable prices. As well as supporting the practical tasks involved in running a busy community food shop, Marian provides a listening ear for the many members who visit the Pantry, as well as staff and volunteers involved in the project.
Marian also volunteers for the Phone Friends project, providing a weekly phone call and friendly chat to people from the local community. This started during the pandemic, as a way to reach out to people left vulnerable and isolated during the lockdowns and Marian has kept this going, ensuring the people she supports get a call every week, come rain or shine.
Most recently, Marian was particularly concerned about the impact of the cost of living crisis on the most vulnerable community members and has taken on yet another volunteering role with ACE, providing support to help people to claim the benefits they are entitled to.
Thank you so much for all your hard work in supporting your local community.
