Neil Binnell: Trustee

Trustee

Neil was co-opted to C3SC’s Board in April 2020.

I am Director of South Riverside Community Development Centre, and have a degree in philosophy and politics and MSC Econ in Management of Care. I am trained as a community mediator.

I have been involved, at Trustee level, in a number of community organisations over the years – the main ones being Newport Mediation, Maindee Festival Association (of which I was Chairperson for 7 years), and Community Connections Monmouthshire (Chairperson) – a befriending service for older people. I worked as assistant director for a care and support organisation for over 20 years; then as a manager of an older persons’ housing and support service. Before this, I worked in housing regeneration.

I believe I have always tried to work with people in a co-productive way, with effective and active listening being the key to providing services that reflect what people really want and need. The work in Maindee provided me with experience of delivering a multi-cultural programme of arts and music in one of the most culturally diverse areas of Wales. I am interested in the politics of food and believe my work practice is inclusive, focusing on people’s strengths, rather than any perceived needs. I currently volunteer at a community garden which contributes enormously to my own health and wellbeing outcomes!
