Central London

There are an estimated 72,800 sex workers in the UK, and data from the United Kingdom Network of Sex Worker Projects shows that 93% of sex workers believe that current legislation is insufficient for safeguarding sex workers in the UK. Safety is a primary area of concern, with 49% of sex workers being worried about their safety.
This symposium will therefore provide sex workers, safeguarding boards, police forces and local authorities with an opportunity to identify and debate priorities for reform and develop strategies for protecting and expanding the rights of sex workers.
Delegates Will:
- Evaluate current policy and police training and discuss the need for an updated framework
- Examine the increased violence that LGBTQ+ and BAME sex workers face and methods of improving their safety
- Explore current reporting mechanisms and their affect on sex worker safety
- Review the role of outreach support services and determine methods of prioritising their funding
- Assess pathways of exiting sex work
