Language and Economy

17th September 2014 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Welsh Centre for Language Planning – in partnership with the Institute of Welsh PoliticsEdwina Hart’s response to the Report of the Welsh Language and Economic Development Task and Finish Group is due to be published shortly. A number of other key reports have also referred to the connection between the vitality of the Welsh language and economic prosperity.
This timely conference will provide an opportunity for policy makers, politicians, community organisations, mentrau iaith, language planners, local authorities, academics and the business sector to come together to discuss the broad subject of ‘language and economy’ and think beyond simple slogans.
In addition to analysing this subject, we’ll consider local efforts to develop economic enterprises that give status to the Welsh language and provide employment for Welsh speakers in the north and west of Wales.

There will also be an opportunity to discuss:

– What action is needed at a national and regional policy level to ensure economic conditions that support Welsh communities?
– What is needed in order to promote enterprise, give status to Welsh and support employment for Welsh speakers within various sectors in the north and west of Wales?
