Parental Substance Misuse and Safeguarding
This is a Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Local Safeguarding Children Board training course
Target Group: This is multi agency training for staff from any agency from Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan who may be working with children where parental substance misuse may be an issue.
Those attending would need to have an understanding of the Children Act, what the term significant harm means, have an understanding of child protection processes and have had experience of working within this area of practice.
Course Content
To develop a wider understanding of the competing needs in working with parents and children in the area of child protection and substance misuse
The value base underpinning this area of work – Who is the client? Whose needs are paramount?; understanding what constitutes significant harm and when this threshold has been crossed; understanding / awareness of the impact of substance misuse on parenting and when this crosses the line into child protection and significant harm; exploring effective joint working in family focussed interventions
