Learning the lessons from the Ageing Well programme in England
A one day workshop for public agencies in Wales
This interactive workshop will share the practical experience of the Ageing Well programme and help participants to develop their thinking about the steps that their councils can take as part of the new Ageing Well in Wales programme.
With a rapidly ageing society there is a need for increasing the pace of strategic and local action to promote positive approaches to preparing for an ageing society.
The Local Government Association’s recent Ageing Well programme has been working with councils to help them to prepare for an ageing society. As part of that work it has demonstrated effective ways of promoting the health and well-being of older people through taking a ‘place-based’ approach which focuses on supporting community assets. It has also piloted new ways of developing dementia-friendly communities.
This workshop will be particularly useful for:
• elected members
• chief executives
• senior managers
• leisure services
• housing
• corporate policy
• community development and regeneration
Issues to be covered will include:
• Locality approaches to well-being
• Influencing the public health agenda
• Understanding ‘place-based’ approaches
• Making the shift to ‘asset-based’ thinking
• Conducting an asset mapping process
• Developing dementia-friendly communities
• Raising awareness of the new partnership programme, Ageing Well in Wales, and how local agencies can get involved
