Criminal Justice and Substance Use
This NewLink Wales course is aimed at people who are currently involved with the CJS, i.e. probation officers, youth offending teams, prison staff, court liaison workers, DIP staff as well as people who may be working within the CJS, with people who use substances and are looking to increase their knowledge around the dual area of substances and offending behaviour.
The content will include:
1. Information around the structure of the Criminal Justice System
2. The signs and effects of the commonly used substances
3. The impact that substance use has on the Criminal Justice System
4. Assessment and questioning skills with substance users
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
1. Identify the different structures within the Criminal Justice System
2. Describe the signs and effects of substance use
3. Examine the impact of substance use in the Criminal Justice System
4. Identify why people use substances
5. Develop assessment and questioning skills with substance users
6. Identify appropriate referral pathways
