At a small additional charge, this 2 day course can be accredited through Agored Cymru gaining 3 credits and level 3 on the Quality Assured Lifelong Learning Framework for Wales.
This course is aimed at people with little or no knowledge of substance misuse. The course will describe the most commonly misused categories of substances and list the effects of alcohol and the risks associated with alcohol misuse. In addition will describe different patterns of substance misuse and discuss the range of service provision available.

This course is aimed at people who have completed NewLink Wales’ Substance Misuse Awareness course and it may also be suitable for people who have some knowledge of substance misuse already. The course will describe the effects of commonly used substances and analyse the risks surrounding the misuse of substances. It will identify the main methods of drug use and explore some harm reduction techniques. In addition it will examine the injection process, analyse risks and explore harm minimisation methods and explore the ‘recovery journey’ and identify appropriate interventions.
International Treatment Effectiveness Project training (ITEP)

International Treatment Effectiveness Programme (ITEP) is a mechanism by which quality of drug treatment can be developed and measured in order to improve delivery of treatment services. It uses mind maps as a visual cognitive tool to help clients organise their thoughts and goals easily, by focusing on images and association. ITEP offers clients a visual way to communicate their current behaviour patterns and help them express what they cannot do through words alone. It can be used in care planning and motivational work from the early stages of treatment until the exit stage
By the end of the course participants will be able to identify what International Treatment Effectiveness Project (ITEP) is and what it involves. It will explain the use of free mapping and structured mapping for personal use, service user work and supervision settings and will examine the use of mind maps. In addition participants will learn how to select the appropriate maps to practice use to maximise confidence and adapt to current and future working roles.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

This course is aimed at people with little or no experience with CBT or those who wish to refresh their knowledge. By the end of the course, participants will be able to define the basic principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and examine elements of CBT. Furthermore they will explore the communication skills needed for using CBT and practice new skills for working with and supporting others.
Prenatal Alcohol Exposure and the Lifelong Effects: Are we really doing enough?

This 1 day course is aimed at people working with children and young people or adults with mental health problems/ disabilities within any setting. Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the leading, known, preventable intellectual disability and is only caused by prenatal alcohol exposure.
By the end of training, participants will be able to identify the causes of FASD and explore the long term effects of FASD on young people and adults. It will explore the difference between FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and FASD. Furthermore the training will discuss the behaviours and needs of someone with FASD throughout their different life stages and lastly will relate FASD development to the style of support and type of work being delivered.
Introduction to Trainer Skills

This course is a City & Guilds accredited course for those individuals who are new to teaching and group facilitation. This course aims to give learners an Introduction into the skills and practices needed as a trainer. The activities that are completed throughout the 2 days are part of the assessment and there is no work to be completed outside of the course.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to identify the systematic approach to learning, write aims and objectives and design and deliver a training session. Furthermore they will be able to outline techniques for working with difficult group members and describe some techniques for assessing learning.
Steroid and Image Enhancing Drugs Training (SIEDS)

This course is aimed at people with little or no knowledge of SIEDS. This course aims to bring an understanding about steroid and image enhancing drug use and the impact that these can have on individuals. The course will look at the main categories of SIEDS and the motivations for using SIEDS. It will also look at how SIEDS are used and the risks involved along with providing an understanding of how to engage with SIEDS users.
