‘Women Making a Difference’

11th March 2013 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Welsh Ambulance Service is working in partnership with BAWSO and with support from other organisations, including Chwarae Teg, to hold an event as part of the world wide celebrations which are being held to mark International Women’s Day.  This year’s theme is: Visible women: Empowering girls and women in Wales so our event is titled ‘Women Making a Difference’.

The aim of the event is to engage with women in the local BME community to empower them and provide them with the skills and the training to help them to manage their own health and that of their families. The event will be an informative and interactive day with inspirational speakers, information stands, resuscitation demonstrations and workshops for head massage and exercise. The Welsh Ambulance Service will also provide basic life support skills, free of charge, to those women who would like to receive accredited training.

There will also be the opportunity for attendees to network with each other over lunch, find out more about other support organisations that can help them and receive information and advice on volunteering, recruitment and training opportunities.

A crèche and multi-faith prayer room will be available on the day and a healthy lunch will be provided.

The Welsh Ambulance Service is also giving people the opportunity to attend first aid training, provided free of charge at the Yemeni Community Centre, Cardiff on 20th March. Places on the course will need to be booked and will be on a first come, first served basis.
