This NewLink Wales course will provide a thorough induction to the principles and practices of solution focused brief therapy. The course is aimed at people working in care and support services. It will be tailored to match the needs of participants from a variety of different backgrounds including health, education, and social care and counselling.

It is suitable for anyone who would like to enhance their therapeutic toolkit and range of communication strategies.  It is a practical course designed to get you working with the skills and over the two days there will be numerous exercises and plenty of time for reflection on your own caseloads. We will work at times within a peer supervision model, discussing your own cases and current experiences whilst applying the solution focused tools you are learning.  SFBT techniques will help you structure conversations with service users in a positive and future focused way, helping to avoid ‘stalemate’ and problem talk. This course will help you when working 1:1, with families or groups providing a very useable framework to craft your responses in a solution focused way.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the defining principles of Solution Focused Brief Therapy
• Recognise how to sculpt Solution Focused responses and elitist Solution Focused responses in the service user
• Further understand the challenges of getting the service user to think differently and to develop Solution Focused tools to facilitate this
• Select Solution Focused assessment tools that can be used to increase motivation for change and development of the preferred future vision for the service user
