A message on behalf of Lowri Jenkins (Wales Country Manager/ Rheolwr Gwlad Cymru):
The Big Lunch is happening this year! Please save the date for 5-6 June (the first weekend of June).
The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual big date to celebrate and give thanks to our neighbours and communities. It’s about celebrating community connections and getting to know each other a little better. This year, there are more reasons than ever to get together, and we all could do with something to look forward to too!
Please share widely with your contacts and network. We’re signposting people to thebiglunch.com and I’ve attached some bilingual social media suggested posts as well as some fun save the date graphics if useful for you (more graphics available).
We’re encouraging people to join in in whatever way suits their community – online, on your doorstep, over the fence, or at a social distance. Even a cup of tea with a neighbour, or an online get together with a local community group has real value in creating more connected, happier communities. Our research last year showed us:
- 91% of attendees said The Big Lunch was just the kind of event that people needed at this time of Coronavirus
- 85% of attendees told us that The Big Lunch helped create a stronger sense of community spirit
- 81% said they were more likely to get involved in community activities as a result.
- 3 million people said they felt closer to their neighbours
I’ve also shared an infographic with even more interesting stats from our research from last year – The Big Lunch 2020 infographic.
If you’d like more information, or would like to discuss how you and your organisation could be involved further, do get back to me,
Diolch,
Lowri Jenkins
