Please gather family and friends and unite with us for our Wear Red Day on Friday the 18th of October 2019
Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism charity that was established in 1996. Our first office opened in Wales in 2000 and since then we have worked to provide anti-racism education and support to thousands of young people and teachers. Last year alone we worked directly with over 20,000 young people and over 1,000 teachers from across Wales.
Unfortunately, racism continues to affect many of our communities and our database show an increase in recent years with more younger children as young as 4 years old using inappropriate language in schools.
An NSPCC investigation found that Welsh police forces have logged nearly 600 race hate offences against children during a 3 year period (2015 to 2018), with 240 of these crimes recorded last year (17/18), again toddlers and babies recorded among the victims of offences.
Some children who called the NSPCC support service Childline said they were targeted because of the way they looked, and reportedly told to ‘go back to their own country’. Some tried to change their appearance by using make up, while others said they did not want to tell their parents for fear of upsetting them. Source – https://bit.ly/2LyxCEI
