Independent Oversight & Advisory Panel

Can you help the criminal justice system in Wales to reduce racial disparity?

Can you constructively support and challenge the criminal justice system in Wales to implement its Anti-Racism commitments?

Criminal Justice in Wales consists of the police, probation, prisons, Crown Prosecution Service, Youth Justice and the court service.  The Welsh Government and Public Health Wales also have significant roles to play.  All of these partners have come together to commit to a Wales Anti-Racism Plan for Criminal Justice, to make sure the work happens and changes are seen.

Criminal Justice in Wales now want to recruit 12 Panel members, including an independent Chair in paid roles to oversee their anti-racism work, to provide external scrutiny, and ensure progress is being made.

We would like to emphasise that the recruitment is open to those passionate for change, having experienced the system themselves.

Aspiring applicants will need to display the following:

  • A keen interest in Race equality
  • An understanding of the Criminal Justice System in Wales, including, for example, as a former professional in the system, through lived experience as a victim, offender or defendant, or as a family member of one of these.
  • The ability to question, challenge and make informed decisions

Panel members will be paid an hourly rate for meeting attendance and the Chair will be paid a slightly higher rate to reflect additional duties.

If you are interested in being part of the panel or wish to apply to be the Panel Chair, please read the Terms of Reference and Role Profile, and complete the application form provided. If you want to make a real difference to criminal justice and help to drive forward positive change, we really want to hear from you!

Applications close midday on Tuesday 19th April 2022 . For more information, please contact Judy@eyst.org.uk
