Care & Repair Cardiff and the Vale gets funding from The British Gas Energy Trust Healthy Homes Fund to support older people keep Warm and Well

We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in a funding bid to help us work in partnership with local health, housing and social care professionals to identify and support older people who have a health condition that is caused or made worse by their living conditions.
 
The service will support older people, over 60 years old, across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan living in any tenure property. 

  • A caseworker will visit the older person at home and assist with
  • support with general repair and maintenance works that could be undertaken to improve the energy efficiency of their homes
  • assistance to access grants, charitable / benevolent and / or other funding for works
  • advice and information on more appropriate ways of purchasing fuel and energy
  • advice and information on energy saving measures and tips that can be undertaken to save energy in the home
  • income maximisation and benefit advice to identify any unclaimed benefits
  • falls prevention advice
  • advice on healthy eating, smoking cessation, alcohol consumption and exercise

What Care & Repair can do to help keep older people warm this winter

It is important to keep warm in your home during the colder winter months.  Cold weather can make you more vulnerable to some illnesses and can increase the chances of slips, trips and falls in the home.  If you are worried about your heating or are living in a cold home, Care & Repair may be able to help you.  This winter we can offer the following help:
 

  • Temporary electric heaters for older people with no heating and hot water
  • Winter warm packs
  • Advice on grants
  • Details of reputable plumbers
  • Technical advice to get quotes and oversee works
