We would like to highlight Miss Tilley’s Community Care for winning the Volunteer Group of the Year Award at the Cardiff Volunteer Awards 2021.
Miss Tilley’s have been awarded for their innovative and welcoming service within the community:
Miss Tilley’s helps 3 churches with community centres in Cardiff to run their cafes by providing cakes, teas and coffees and serving the public. The group aims to promote inclusion of young adults with learning difficulties and celebrate diversity. The young people learn cooking, baking and food hygiene skills as well as teamwork. The group has grown quickly from its humble beginnings as local ‘pop ups’ and now involves some 20 young adults, plus their parents and other volunteers from the community.
During lockdown when everything was closed, the young people made socially-distanced doorstep deliveries to their customers who were very frail and vulnerable. And, in a very stressful and isolating time, the young people were able to stay in touch with one another through cooking practices and quizzes on Zoom. The community benefits by seeing what disabled youngsters are capable of and what good company they can be.
Thank you so much for all your hard work in supporting your local community.
