We would like to highlight Clare Rowthorn for winning the Volunteer Coordinator of the Year Award at the Cardiff Volunteer Awards 2021.
Clare started her cafes 5 years ago as local pop-ups see below why she was nominated for this year’s award:
Clare is the Co-ordinator of Miss Tilley’s Community Cafe, which has nearly 50 volunteers – most of them young adults with learning and other disabilities, and their parents.
Clare’s passion is to promote inclusion and celebrate diversity – she welcomes everyone and makes sure they have a role ideal for them. She is hugely supportive to the young people and their families – visiting them if bereaved or settling into supported living. In lockdown, she ran zoom cooking classes which were great fun and made doorstep cake deliveries to customers she knew to be lonely and vulnerable. The long-term legacy is that Clare’s great care and passion has created a blueprint for other groups to follow if they wish to support disabled youngsters into work.
Thank you so much for all your hard work in supporting your local community.
