The Romani Cultural and Arts Company

Community Arts Tutors

(PER SESSION FEE TO BE NEGOTIATED)

The Romani Cultural & Arts Company are seeking applications from interested people with an arts-arts-based skill / trade to become sessional Community Arts Tutors as part of their Children and Young Peoples Arts Workshop Project on local Gypsy & Traveller sites. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the 3 year project until 2021.

This project is funded by BBC Children In Need.

The project is designed to engage with children on 4 Gypsy and Traveller sites across South Wales over a three year period. Its purpose is to:
1. To support Gypsy and Irish Traveller children to improve their levels of social interaction between the different ethnic GT (Gypsy, Irish Traveller) groups living on caravan sites. This is because Gypsies and Irish Travellers do not have many opportunities to mix and make friends.
2. To support Gypsy and Traveller children to have good self-esteem, be more resilient and feel proud of their cultural heritage and background so that their confidence is less affected by prejudice and / or perceived discrimination.
3. To support Gypsy and Traveller children to feel more confident and resilient in engaging with support agencies and the outside world so that they are encouraged to maintain engagement in purposeful activity and education.

The four sites we work on are: Cwmcrachen, Blaenau Gwent Council; Roverway, Cardiff County Council; Shepherd’s Hill, Torfaen Council; Shirenewton, Cardiff County Council

Community Arts Tutors collaborate with a wide variety of local groups, encouraging the use of artistic activities to support their development and improve their quality of life. Generally, they work in areas where there are social, cultural or environmental issues to be addressed. They use a whole range of art forms to engage with these different community groups, including visual arts, theatre, dance, music, carnival arts and film.

The Beacon Centre

In 2005, The Beacon Centre Trust realised one of our key objectives by opening The Beacon Centre in St Mellons, Cardiff.

For more than a decade, the Centre has served the local area by providing space for a huge range of activities and services including children’s clubs, youth work, toddler groups, lunch clubs, exercise classes, counselling, training, job clubs and much more. The Centre is home to one of the best nursery childcare settings in the city, a number of small local businesses and several churches.

We are passionate about our community. We recognise the value, energy and worth that lies within each and every person in St Mellons, but we also know there are some complex challenges to overcome.

The Trust has experienced a huge amount of change in the last 12 months. While challenging, our trustees, staff and volunteers are hugely excited at the opportunity that now lies before us. As we enter a period of rebuilding and re-imagining, we’re looking for creative, passionate and committed people to join us in helping to shape our future.

The Trustee role is critical to the success of the Trust, responsible for developing our strategy and ensuring our organisation delivers it. Cardiff and Vale Action for Mental Health (cavamh)

Volunteer Treasurer needed

We are looking for someone who would like to join our Board of Directors at cavamh as a

co-optee, in the role of Treasurer.

cavamh is a local charity operating in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, supporting voluntary sector groups with an interest in mental health, people using mental health services and carers, to have a voice in the planning and delivery of services. We provide information, training and development support and work a lot through networks, groups and activities.

We currently have a range of funding streams, both statutory and charitable.

Scope of involvement

The Board meets bi–monthly and we would like the Treasurer to meet with the Office Manager and Director occasionally between meetings, particularly at year end and in setting out new budgets.

In particular we would like the Treasurer to work with the Board on:

Work with staff to monitor where appropriate with regard to the Cardiff and Vale Action for Mental Health’s accounts. DBS check required.

Cardiff YMCA Housing Association – Board members needed!

In Cardiff the Association operates hostels and housing schemes mostly in the Roath area of the City housing and supporting 120 homeless vulnerable men and women every day and night of the year in secure supported temporary accommodation. We are about to embark on an exciting period of change and your expertise will be required.

The Group consists of Cardiff YMCA Housing Association; YMCA Cardiff and also owns and manages YMCA Newport which is a conference, community, sports and youth centre in the Pilgwenlly area of the City.

The Volunteer Car Service (VCS) is an invaluable part of the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service. It is made up of a team of dedicated volunteer drivers throughout Wales who use their own cars and give their time freely to assist in transporting thousands of patients to and from hospital appointments such as renal dialysis, oncology and outpatients.

As part of the development strategy YCS are keen to recruit new trustees to the board. The current board mostly consists of individuals with experience in providing psychological therapies. While they welcome applications for membership from all interested parties, they would most like to recruit members with board experience in the not-for-profit sector, with keen financial and business acumen and perhaps an interest in the regulatory aspects of running a third sector organisation. The board meetings take place quarterly in Cardiff Bay/central Cardiff; and also work in sub groups for specific pieces of work outside of these meetings.

Members – Community Health Councils

Do you have an interest in your local NHS? Do you want to improve local health services in your area? Do you have 3-5 days free per month to become a volunteer?

If you answered YES to the above questions, then become a volunteer of the Community Health Councils (CHC) in Wales.

We are looking for people from all walks of life, of all ages. We ensure no eligible candidate receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of: age, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion or religious affiliation.

The most important requirement is a genuine interest in improving health services for your community. Some key skills which would be useful include: an interest in local health issues, being able to work in a team and with a diverse range of people plus good communication skills.

What are CHCs?
CHCs represent the independent voice of patients and the public who use the health service in Wales. They play an important role in influencing the way services are planned and delivered, to ensure the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes for all people in Wales.

What do CHC members do?
CHC members are local volunteers who act as the eyes and ears of patients and the public, visiting hospitals, listening to patient concerns and working with the health service to improve the quality of patient care.

Successful candidates will be given training and support to enable them to carry out their role and any ‘out of pocket’ expenses such as travel will be reimbursed.
