Paul Keeping

Chair – Recovery Coach at The Living Room, Cardiff

Paul joined the Board of Trustees in 2018, and was elected as Chair later that year.

“I’ve worked alongside Cardiff Third Sector Council for the past 15 years or so, during a career based mainly in the local public sector in the areas of equality, scrutiny policy, communications and partnership.  I have long been a fan of the amazing talent and commitment I’ve seen across the city’s voluntary organisations and communities.

I served as a trustee and Chair of Hijinx Theatre from 1993 to 2006, and was Consultant Observer on the Cardiff Communities First Ethnic Minority Partnership from 2007 – 11.  In 2001 I had the honour to be appointed Public Relations Director for the Special Olympics National Summer Games, which was a very rewarding experience.  More recently, I co-ordinated the campaign to prevent a large dam being constructed in an area of ancient natural woodland in Dinas Powys, and am currently supporting Natural Resources Wales to deliver a programme of natural flood management in the Cadoxton valley.

I currently volunteer as a recovery coach at Living Room Cardiff, supporting people in recovery from a range of addictive illnesses.

I hope that my empathy for the third sector, coupled with my background and connections in public sector governance and policy will help me build partnerships and shared capacity.  These are challenging times for us all, but I believe that by working together we can make the best of any opportunities that arise.  Voluntary groups are inclusive and close to their communities, and uniquely capable of helping people find meaning and wellbeing in their lives.
