#OpenUpListenUp – New male suicide prevention campaign for Wales

Samaritans have launched a new male suicide prevention campaign for Wales.

#OpenUpListenUp aims to assure men that they deserve a great listener when they’re ready to open up – that they deserve to be properly heard. Samaritan volunteers are here to support them round the clock, in English or Welsh.

Men in Wales are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.  In 2023, there were 386 suicides in Wales, and 296 of these deaths were by men.

Over the past few years in Wales, men aged 35-39 have become one of the highest risk groups for suicide. Middle-aged men, especially those living in poverty, have been one of the most at-risk groups for decades in Wales; this trend hasn’t changed and is a growing concern.
