Independent Age: the older people’s charity offering free friendship services to help alleviate loneliness has launched their befriending service in South Wales. Through regular visits, over a cup of tea and a chat, their volunteers build relationships that make the older people they help feel less isolated and more socially connected. The service is run for people over the age of 65. The aim of their friendship service is to reduce feeling of loneliness in older people and, where possible, encourage them to join in local activities.
“We are already seeing the measurable benefits of befriending in many parts of the UK so we are very excited to be bringing a similar service to Cardiff and Newport”.
