The All Wales BAME Engagement team at EYST Wales are pleased to inform you of of their next forum that will take place on Wednesday 9th March at 10am.
“We hope that you will be able to join us on this occasion; furthermore, we would appreciate it if the below event could be circulated with your networks. For more details, please see below: From TV to the daily news, to the way in which the narrative is written of the person who is ethnically different, how is this being challenged in 2022? Although progress has been made to increase diversity in public life and media, numbers are still disproportionate to the actual representation of the UK. In fictional TV shows, we see the same stereotypes replay on our screens, heavily misrepresenting our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities. In other cases, the news is no different. If our culture is being misconstrued, what does this inform all audiences watching? How do we take back our power, to tell the stories that truly reflect our ethnic communities? What does it mean to be represented on-screen in a way that is indicative of our culture and society off-screen? After all, we spend a good deal of our lifetime consuming media. Join us in our next forum to discuss what true media representation means to you!
We are pleased to be joined by the following 3 key speakers on the day:
- Shirish Kulkarni (Award-winning journalist, People’s Newsroom)
- Shaun Pascal (Co-founder, Black Wall St. Media)
- 3rd speaker to be confirmed
