C3SC is organising two training sessions with the Disclosure and Barring Service; one around Eligibility and the other on Barring. The overall outcome of both is to have a greater understanding of DBS, its products and how DBS can work with organisations at all levels to promote and encourage safer recruitment and safeguarding in its widest context.
Disclosure Presentation: (Approx 90 mins)
Date: Monday 21st June
Time: 2pm – 3:30pm
The learning outcomes from this sessions are:-
- Introduction to DBS
- Understand the benefits of DBS and you (organisation) working together
- Understand the different levels of DBS checks
- Understand when an employee is eligible for a check
- Understand what Regulated Activity is
- Understand the DBS Update Service
- Have an understanding of what safe recruitment practices can be in place that DBS checks can form a part of.

Barring Presentation: (approx. 120 mins)
Date: Thursday 24th June
Time: 1pm – 3pm
The learning outcomes from this session are:-
- Understand the benefits of DBS and you (employer) working together
- Understand the three different referral routes
- Understand when a DBS Barring referral should be made, including when the legal duty is met
- Understand Regulated Activity / Relevant Conduct and Harm Test
- Understand how to make a good quality referral
- Have a clear understanding of the consequences of not making appropriate barring referrals and the consequences of being included in one or both Barred Lists
