The tragic deaths of 15-year-old Harvey Evans and 16-year-old Kyrees Sullivan shocked the Ely community and made national news in 2023 but the friends and families, who are still shrouded in grief, are now determined to give as much help and support as they can to each other and show their community in a positive light. Supported by C3SC, the parents of both teenagers have established H&K Forever Young Foundation. The Charity, which is in both their names, aims to give back to the community and support children and young adults who reside in the Ely area, and we are pleased to have recently welcomed them as C3SC members.
The newly formed charity is a work in progress – initially starting with the creation of a football team in the boys’ names where boys and young men can come together twice a week. Another of our members, Action in Caerau and Ely (ACE), put them in touch with our Third Sector Development Officer, Thomas Crockett, who gave them the advice, support and guidance they needed to set up as a community interest company (CIC).
Upon receiving our support, H&K Forever Young Foundation said, ‘The support we received from Thomas at C3SC was second to none. His knowledge and expertise in this area were invaluable and we are extremely grateful for his support’.
Over the coming months, the Foundation aims to start a youth club which will provide a place and opportunities for the young people of Ely to learn a variety of life skills on a weekly basis, meeting their objectives including:
- Relieving poverty of young people by the provision of grants to enable them to participate in healthy recreational activities that they could not otherwise afford;
- Promoting social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society.
The team @C3SC look forward to hearing about the next stages for this fantastic group who are already making positive differences in their local community in Ely.
