On Monday the 16th of September, C3SC was pleased to invite two staff members from Cardiff University on air during the Cardiff Community Radio Show. Since June 2024 C3SC has hosted a regular radio programme on the community radio station, Radio Cardiff. The programme, named the Cardiff Community Radio Show, has provided a new medium through which the triumphs, challenges, and stories from the community can be shared with listeners across Cardiff.
Dr. Sarju Patel and Dr. Masud Numair joined the team on air to talk about the work they are involved with at Cardiff University relating to equality, diversity and inclusion. Specifically, Dr. Patel spoke about ongoing projects such as PACE, which aims to support and stimulate student academic development and encourage aspirations by running weekly interactive sessions. The project initially launched in Grangetown but has since expanded to operate in 4 Cardiff schools.
Dr. Numair shared some of his own experiences as a member of the LGBTQ+ community within Cardiff, and how his journey as an asylum seeker gave him a unique perspective on challenges individuals may face when integrating into life in Cardiff. Dr. Numair is not only a BAME LGBTQ+ representative at Cardiff University, but is also one of the founding members of Glitter Cymru, a Cardiff based social meet-up group for the LGBTQ+ global majority community since June 2016.
