Bevan Commission: Let’s Not Waste Call to Action and Launch Event

The health and social care system in Wales is facing unprecedented challenges in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, a cost-of-living crisis, and the global climate emergency. In response to this, the Bevan Commission, as one of its priorities, is focusing its thinking and challenge to address waste in health and care.

We would like to invite you and your organisation to join this urgent national call to action to reduce waste across health and care in Wales. The ‘Let’s Not Waste’ programme aims to galvanise the collective energy, expertise, and enthusiasm of professionals and the public to address the environmental, economic, and social aspects of waste in health and care. We want to engage everyone to take action to develop more sustainable solutions for health and care, using all available skills and resources most prudently.

The Let’s Not Waste programme will build upon the research undertaken by the Commission and bring together a commitment and collaboration to reduce waste across the system.  We are inviting you to a webinar on Wednesday 19th of April between 2:00pm-5:00pm, to find out more about this research and the Let’s Not Waste programme and the planned collaborative network to take action to address this challenge.

The launch webinar will provide an opportunity to hear from key speakers such as Professor Sir Don Berwick and Professor Sir Andy Haines, both of whom have been involved in leading this work with us. We also have Dr Andy Rees and Lisa Wise from Welsh Government, who are supporting this work, to expand upon the wider national environmental, public health and waste strategy, and Dr Richard Smith from the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change. There will also be an opportunity to engage with your peers, share ideas and be part of the discussion on what and how we can take collective action to achieve the best results for Wales.
