What is AmazonSmile?
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices, and convenient shopping features as on amazon.co.uk. The difference is that when customers shop through the URL smile.amazon.co.uk, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of eligible purchases to the charitable organisations selected by customers.
What are the eligibility requirements for charitable organisations to participate?
Organisations must be registered and in good standing with the Charity Commission of either England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland to be eligible to participate. Organisations that engage in, support, encourage, or promote intolerance, discrimination, hate, terrorism, violence, money laundering, or other illegal activities are not eligible to participate. Amazon relies on the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the OSCR and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, as well as other statutory law enforcement bodies, to determine which organisations fall into these groups. Charitable organisations must also adhere to the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement to maintain eligibility. Charitable organisations may choose not to participate in AmazonSmile at any time. Although we aim to include only charitable organisations that are in good standing, we cannot guarantee the good standing and/or conduct of any charitable organisation. For complete details, see the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement.
How does AmazonSmile work?
In order to browse or shop through AmazonSmile, customers must first select a charitable organisation. Once they have chosen their charity they can shop the site as they normally would. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of the customer’s eligible purchases. Only purchases made through smile.amazon.co.uk are eligible to generate donations.
Is there any cost to charitable organisations or to customers?
No. There is no cost to charitable organisations or to AmazonSmile customers. The shopping experience is identical to amazon.co.uk with the added benefit that Amazon will donate to the charitable organisations selected by customers.
May customers make direct donations to charitable organisations through the AmazonSmile programme?
The only way for customers to support their selected charitable organisation through AmazonSmile is by shopping at smile.amazon.co.uk. Direct donations are not currently supported.
