Measuring the Mountain wants to hear your experiences of receiving care and support or being a carer
Measuring the Mountain is a Welsh Government-funded project looking at people’s experiences of care and support services or of being a carer.
It is an all-Wales collaboration of the public sector, third sector and, most importantly, the people who live here.
Building on the work from 2018, Measuring the Mountain will have two main elements in 2019 to 2020:
- story-gathering
- citizens’ jury.
The story-gathering is taking place from 1 August 2019 to 31 May 2020, and the citizens’ jury will take place in May 2020.
Measuring the Mountain wants to hear people’s stories about their experiences from the last 12 months and their thoughts about those experiences.
It is interested in all kinds of stories so it can understand the early impact of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
The project recognises that being a carer, or needing care and support can relate to many different aspects of a person’s life, so people can tell the project about community activities, health matters, or housing, for example.
Measuring the Mountain will then analyse the stories so it can understand the themes that emerge from them, as well as more about what is working well, what could be done differently, and the factors that contribute to someone’s experiences being positive or negative.
At the Citizens’ Jury, members of the public will examine, in-depth, an issue to arise from the stories.
Measuring the Mountain will set a question for the jury, and arrange a programme of witnesses to provide them with information and to answer their questions.
Jurors will spend the final day compiling their ideas, conclusions and recommendations into a report that will be shared with Welsh Government and organisations from across the social care sector.
