Cardiff Safer, Cohesive, and More Equal Communities Network
Building confident and cohesive communities in Cardiff is one of our key priorities. The Cardiff Safer, Cohesive and More Equal Communities Network is committed to creating stronger, more resilient and safer communities by ensuring people:
- Feel safe and live in a cohesive community
- Are proud of and want to live, work, study and stay in the borough
- Live in a friendly and welcoming borough with strong community spirits.
Why building confident and cohesive communities is a priority
Community cohesion is vital to achieving a safer and more harmonious Cardiff. Community division and segregation affects many aspects of our lives and this can prevent our communities thriving. This is why we need to work on building community cohesion, to create a common vision and sense of belonging and to help each other to value people from different backgrounds and circumstances.
We need to develop strong, positive relationships between people from different backgrounds in the workplace, in schools and education, and in local communities.
A cohesive society is one in which:
- There is a common vision and sense of belonging by all communities;
- The diversity of people’s backgrounds and circumstances is appreciated and valued;
- Similar life opportunities are available to all; and
- Strong and positive relationships exist and continue to be developed in the workplace, in schools and in the wider community.
People also benefit in terms of their health and wellbeing, from their connections with people around them and when people look out for each other.
The plan is that this Network will act like a glue, that bonds society together and helps create strong and resilient communities.
