SUMMARY:Therapy and/or Meditation: How do these things work together?
DESCRIPTION:TV’s Alistair Appleton is giving a public talk\, organised by the Samye Foundation: \nAlistair has provided the following description of the talk: \n“This is a rich subject and a friend recently asked about the cross-over between mindfulness and psychotherapy. While there’s a lot of research into the therapeutic impact of mindfulness\, there are only a few books/studies into how mindfulness works within the therapy room. \nThis talk looks to explore that fruitful seam with examples from therapy and some theoretical considerations. It’s open to everyone – therapist and laypeople\, but perhaps particularly interesting if you’re in a caring profession or\, indeed\, are in therapy.” \nIf you would like to go along\, please email admin@sfwales.org

SUMMARY:Safeguarding Children and Young People from Sexual Exploitation Conference
DESCRIPTION:The number of reported child sexual offences in England and Wales is on the increase. In 2014-15 child exploitation offences in England and Wales were at their highest for a decade\, with more than 47\,000 offences against children recorded. The increases are continuing\, and in 2015 police investigated 70\,000 reports of child abuse. Most abusers are family members so this is no easy task. \nOfsted have recently published a report on how the police\, probation services\, youth offending teams\, health services and local safeguarding children boards deal with child sexual exploitation has identified certain gaps that need to be closed. \nThis Department of Events conference will identify the extent of the problem and examine how best to protect children from child sexual exploitation.Find out more and book online. \n\nThe number of reported child sexual offences in England and Wales is on the increase. SUMMARY:Introduction to Soft Outcomes and Distance Travelled
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nThe Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014 came into force on 6th April this year and places a new focus on services supporting the well-being outcomes of the people they are working with. The term ‘wellbeing’ is used to refer to the quality of people’s lives\, and covers both subjective and objective aspects.  Subjective well-being focuses on soft outcomes such as how people are feeling and how they perceive their lives and personal goals.  Objective well-being focuses on the conditions which affect those feelings such as health or education which are easier to measure in hard outcomes. Both of these perspectives are valuable for understanding children’s well-being. \nThis course is relevant for managers and practitioners who wish to demonstrate that their intervention has made a difference to outcomes for people they work with.  Budgets are tight and all organisations need to consider economy and efficiency\, but it is important to keep a focus on the effectiveness of services. This course will look at measuring the soft outcomes that your intervention has achieved for the people you work with. Participants will explore a range of methods that can be used with all groups – from children and young people to adults. \nFind out more and book online
