SUMMARY:Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) Level 2 training
DESCRIPTION:Safeguarding Adults: It’s everybody’s business – here’s information about this Cardiff Council training course\nThe protection of vulnerable adults against psychological\,sexual\, emotional\, physical and financial abuse is powerfully explored in our unique interactive workshop. \nSessions are designed around carefully researched case studies exploring situations which have led to the abuse of adults. We use drama and discussion to approach the issues faced by frontline staff and managers in an accessible way\, inspiring and shaping new conversations about how best to respond in situations where adults are at risk. \nDrawing directly from National and Local Safeguarding Policies and Procedures for Adults\, Dignity in Care guid- ance and the Serious Case Review into the death of Steven Hoskin\, the three-hour workshop develops essential awareness of the individual roles and responsibilities of all staff and managers with regard to: \n•    Recognising Abuse •    Reporting Abuse •    Preventing Abuse \nWe are passionate about the live experience and our skilled actors and facilitators create scenarios which challenge perceptions and communicate critical messages with lasting impact. \nBy creating a safe\, dynamic training environment\, a range of perspectives and alternative outcomes can be explored. Our goal is to provide frontline staff and managers with the knowledge and confidence to ensure nothing is missed in their day to day exposure to potential abuse situations. \nWe deliver training for staff and managers working within the following areas: •    Adult Service Providers •    Care Homes •    Health •    Voluntary & Independent Sector •    Housing \nTo book your place\, email scwdp@cardiff.gov.uk

SUMMARY:IWA Debate: Should Welsh City Regions have elected mayors?
DESCRIPTION:This event is being held in partnership with Cardiff University \nThere are currently 17 directly elected mayors in England\, but none in Wales. \nProponents of elected mayors say they can raise the profile of a city and new powers being offered to cities in England make the role powerful and appealing\, but critics claim they are costly and their effectiveness varies. A recent petition failed to get enough votes to support a referendum on a Mayor for Cardiff. \nBut given the rise of the City Regions and the City Deals in Wales\, is now the time to consider whether Wales’ City Regions should have elected mayors to support a new governance structure for the nation? \nConfirmed speakers for this debate are: \n\nAlexandra Jones\, Chief Executive\, Centre for Cities\nSimon Cook\, former Deputy Mayor of Bristol\n\nTickets for this event are free\, but limited. \nBook online
