SUMMARY:International Treatment Effectiveness Project training (ITEP)
DESCRIPTION:  \nInternational Treatment Effectiveness Programme (ITEP) is a mechanism by which quality of drug treatment can be developed and measured in order to improve delivery of treatment services. It uses mind maps as a visual cognitive tool to help clients organise their thoughts and goals easily\, by focusing on images and association. It can be used in care planning and motivational work from the early stages of treatment until the exit stage \nBy the end of this NewLink Wales course participants will be able to identify what International Treatment Effectiveness Project (ITEP) is and what it involves. It will explain the use of free mapping and structured mapping for personal use\, service user work and supervision settings and will examine the use of mind maps. In addition participants will learn how to select the appropriate maps to practice use to maximise confidence and adapt to current and future working roles. \nVoluntary Sector £125.00\, Statutory Sector £135.00 \n  \nTo book onto the course or for further information – Telephone: 029 2052 9002 or email info@newlinkwales.org.uk or visit www.newlinkwales.org.uk \n  \n

SUMMARY:"Keeping Our Children Safe" Training for Designated Person for Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course \nAll children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect but recent events highlight\, yet again\, how difficult it can be for so many adults to recognise\, and act on concerns about the safety or welfare of a child. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child. The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised. This two day training course will consider: \n\nThe role of the Designated Person and how this can be incorporated into your organisation\nLegislation and guidance on safeguarding children and young people\, particularly within the Welsh context\nEssential safeguarding measures that need to be in place\nThe ‘abuse of trust’ and how to remain alert to potential sexual offences within the organisation\nAssessing concerns about a child and making a referral to social services if necessary\nThe statutory child protection system and what may be expected of you\nConfidentiality and good record keeping\nDiversity and the additional vulnerabilities for some children\n\nFind out more and book via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:National Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller Symposium - Monday 20 October 2014
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Romani Cultural Arts Company is the leading Romani and Traveller community organisation in Wales\, using the arts and culture as a vehicle for advocacy and empowerment amongst the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities. The RCAC seeks to build understanding and community cohesion between Gypsies and others\, supporting individuals as “community champions” to become actors and agents of change\, encouraging them to become active in making a difference for themselves. \nThe October 2014 “Great Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller Debate” will bring together members of the Gypsy\, Roma andTraveller community with politicians\, policy makers and public servants to address the issues that have become so prevalent in the past few years. Why are Roma from Eastern Europe coming to the UK? Who are they and how are they related to Gypsies and Travellers? How can our schools\, hospitals and housing services work with these communities? The invited panel of experts will address these questions and others\, in an “any questions” panel and discussion with the audience. \nRCAC is hosting this event to provide an opportunity for Gypsies\, Roma and Travellers to express their views\, in their own words while responding to the questions and concerns raised by service providers\, local authority managers\, teachers\, health professionals and police officers. RCAC intends this debate to be the basis for a report to government that will better inform the EU National Roma Integration Strategy for Wales\, to provide a better understanding between all communities and improve the dialogue between those that have a responsibility to deliver services and provision. \nRoxanne Nazir said “The Open Society Initiative for Europe of the Open Society Foundations is very pleased to be supporting the 2014 Symposium. The Romani Cultural and Arts Company has a great reputation for its knowledge of the communities and for bringing these communities and stakeholders together.  This event will provide the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller community with the space to express their concerns\, change perceptions of the GRT communities and influence strategies going forwards. We very much look forward to the event.” \nDr. Ethel Brooks – 2011-2012 Fulbright Distinguished Chair\, University of the Arts London said “The Romani Cultural and Arts Company has an outstanding record in artistic practice and community engagement\, exemplified by its work with Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller Communities across Wales through arts and culture practice and education. The Symposium will provide a unique space for Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller community members to engage with politicians\, academics\, community advocates and policy makers to address the European Roma Integration Strategy and the work of the Welsh government in its implementation\, along with other urgent questions facing our communities”. \nJulie Morgan\, Assembly Member for Cardiff North\, said “I am delighted to speak at and support this years symposium. It is a wonderful opportunity for the different communities to come together to share experiences and give views to influence policy in this very important area”. \n
