SUMMARY:Sanctuary in the Senedd
DESCRIPTION:https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/sanctuary-in-the-senedd-noddfa-yn-y-senedd-tickets-40139926601 \nAn event by the Welsh Refugee Coalition: \n “Imagine having to grab your family and run\, leaving everything you know and love behind to try to find a safe place and the chance of a new life. This is the plight of 65.6 million people worldwide who have been forcibly displaced from their homes as a result of persecution\, conflict\, violence or human rights violations.  By the time you finish reading this diary marker 20 more people would have been forced to flee – 20 people just like you or me. \nIt’s also people like you and me\, living across Wales that have offered the hand of friendship to the tiny proportion of displaced people seeking sanctuary within our communities. Welsh communities have responded to the ‘refugee crisis’ by opening their hearts and homes to new friends and neighbours\, by offering a warm Welsh welcome and setting up co-ordinated support through groups and places of sanctuary. In doing so our lives are enriched beyond measure and we share friendships with some of the most humble\, uplifting\, inspiring and resilient people you will ever have the fortune to meet. \nWe want Wales to become the world’s first Nation of Sanctuary – what an idea! A whole country where people seeking sanctuary find people who welcome them\, understand why they are here\, support them and most important of all\, actively include them as participants\, volunteers and members\, wherever they go. \nJoin us on 24th January to find out how far Wales has come on its journey towards becoming a Nation of Sanctuary and meet people from across Wales to hear about their experiences and better understand how we can work together to ensure that Wales\, as a globally responsible nation\, plays a full role in supporting people seeking sanctuary. \n We will be in the Senedd from 10:30am-1:45pm with a programme full of discussion and debate. Full details will be provided in due course. Please let us know if you are able to join us. \n Date: 24th January 2018 Time: 10:30am – 1.45pm (lunch will be provided) Location: The Senedd\, Cardiff Bay \nThis event is co-ordinated by the Welsh Refugee Coalition – a coalition of organisations working in Wales with asylum seekers and refugees at all stages of their journey\, and with the communities in which they live.”

SUMMARY:Future Generations Briefing Event
DESCRIPTION:At this Briefing Event\, Eurgain Powell\, Policy Advisor at the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales\, will provide detailed information about how the Act applies to housing in Wales and its impact on equality. \n This is a great opportunity for you to learn how you can apply the principles of the Act to your own work and help support your tenants in the long term. \n The purpose of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 is to facilitate improved decision making by public bodies in respect of the economic\, social\, environmental and cultural well-being of Wales. Five key ways of working have been introduced to ensure public bodies work together to take account of the long-term work to prevent problems occurring or getting worse\, take an integrated and collaborative approach\, and to consider and involve people. \n At Tai Pawb\, we placed the Well-being Goals of the Act at the heart of the design and development of our new strategic plan to ensure our ambitions and long term policy and influencing activities were in line with the new duties and responsibilities placed on public bodies and Welsh Government. \n We want to support the Welsh housing sector to embrace the sentiment summed up perfectly by the Future Generations Commissioner\, Sophie Howe\, in her blog post ‘Home is where well-being begins’ (2017) where she states: \n“The health effects of poor housing disproportionately affect vulnerable people: older people living isolated lives\, young adults with disabilities and those without support networks.” \nThe Act places a legal requirement on Welsh Government\, local government\, local health boards and other specified public bodies to conduct assessments upon which objectives must be set to address seven well-being goals to make Wales a prosperous\, resilient\, healthier\, more equal and globally responsible country with cohesive communities\, a vibrant culture and a thriving Welsh language. \n Together\, the seven well-being goals and five ways of working provided by the Act are designed to support and deliver a public service that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. \nBook a place online

SUMMARY:NHS Hack Day
DESCRIPTION:Who should come to NHS Hack Days? \n\nIf you’re from a background which isn’t well-represented in most geeky meetups\, come along – we want to make a difference.\nIf you’re from a background which is well-represented in most geeky meetups\, come along – we want your help to make a difference.\nIf you’re worried about not being computery enough\, come.\nIf you think you’re an imposter\, come.\nIf your day job isn’t code\, come.\nThis isn’t a group of experts\, just people. We are interested in the social and technical problems.\nThis is a support group. No-one knows what they are doing.\n\n“…A hackathon (also known as a hack day\, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development\, including graphic designers\, interface designers and project managers\, collaborate intensively on software projects. Occasionally\, there is a hardware component as well. Hackathons typically last between a day and a week. Some hackathons are intended simply for educational or social purposes\, although in many cases the goal is to create usable software…” \nThat sounds a bit scary. It isn’t. \nHack Days are a fun way to brainstorm collaboratively and come up with quick solutions. Making actual “products” isn’t necessarily the aim; it’s about having a great time\, learning something and meeting some brilliant people. The main advantage of Hack Days is having people with a wide range of skills all in the same room and working together\, something which may not be achieved quite so explicitly during day jobs in software development. \nWhat makes NHS Hack Days different is that we are committed to welcoming people who don’t necessarily have computer skills to our events. We want everyone with any interest whatsoever in healthcare technology: healthcare professionals\, patients and their relatives\, representatives from charities\, and anyone else who wants to help out\, or even just to see what we’re doing. Notably a career researcher in chemistry came along to one of our recent events by accident thinking it was a day of lectures\, but he was persuaded to stay anyway and ended up being part of the winning team! \nFind out more here!
