SUMMARY:‘Tales from the Camps’; History\, Ethnicity\, Identity and Mobility – An Educational Training Day
DESCRIPTION:The Romani Cultural & Arts Company are offering ‘an insider’s guide to a deeper understanding of the Romani and Traveller communities in Wales’ and to building stronger relationships with the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities on the basis of that deeper understanding\, for educationalists\, policy and strategy-makers\, local authority service providers\, non-governmental organisations and the Third Sector.    The Romani Cultural & Arts Company is uniquely positioned to deliver such understanding and experience\, from a Romani and Traveller perspective\, as RCAC is a Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller led organisation that promotes development within the community it serves\, addressing social justice and improving social cohesion between communities. We provide a deeper insight into working with Romani and Traveller communities\, in ways that are intended to enhance\, strengthen and support delivery of services by your organisation\, in ways no other organisation and training can. Meeting your organisation’s commitments to diversity\, social inclusion and addressing disadvantaged communities\, in particular to meeting the aims and objectives of the Welsh legislative context\, such as the Well-being of Future Generations Act (Wales)2015\, (https://futuregenerations.wales/about-us/future-generations-act/) and complying with the statutory obligations of the “Travelling to a Better Future” A Gypsy and Traveller Framework for Action and Delivery Plan (Update March 2016) are an integral part of the development programme to 2020 in Wales (http://gov.wales/topics/people-and-communities/communities/communitycohesion/gypsytravellers/?lang=en). Our training provides the necessary\, deep understanding of the issues and challenges historically facing the Romani and Traveller communities and the current\, ever-changing societal context faced by Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities. \n Who should attend this training?   This course is essential for anyone interested in ensuring that their services are inclusive and accessible for the Romani and Traveller communities and for meeting the complex legislative framework that ensures diversity and . It would be particularly useful for those who work in equality\, health\, education\, social services\, planning\, housing and accommodation and the early years.   Why should you attend this training?   It will support you to: \n\nEnsure effective engagement with the Romani and Traveller communities in your local area\, whilst improving your knowledge of the complex cultural and historical issues that impact upon the relationships you wish to build\, to improve service delivery;\nBe understanding and informed in your interactions with people from the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities\nBe better able to assess the service needs that address the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities in Wales\n\nAims \n\nTo increase awareness about the cultural\, ethnic and historical diversity in Wales; \nto address the issues\, obstacles faced by and the needs of Romani and Travellers in Wales; \nto encourage innovation and improvement in the delivery of services and provision to Romani and Traveller communities\, and \nto build trust and cooperation between Romani and Traveller communities and local authority and other sector service providers.\n\nLearning Objectives \n\nTo achieve a broader and more comprehensive understanding of the needs of GRT communities\, from a local authority perspective;\nTo develop a level of knowledge that will enhance and inform local authority officers’ interactions with individuals and groups from the GRT communities in their areas and localities;\nTo introduce knowledge regarding the important differences between Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities and their cultures\, languages and origins\, insofar as is useful to participants in the training\, with the aim of inspiring best practice and improving service delivery;\nTo introduce to participants examples of community members who are role models and who can challenge the prevailing stereotypes of Gypsies and Travellers or the negative images of Roma\, present in media and popular press.\n\nBy the end the session participants will have: \n\nIncreased their knowledge of the culture\, traditions and history of the Romani and Traveller communities (this includes a timeline of key historical events and legislation);  \nDeveloped an understanding of diversity within the Romani and Traveller communities (including addressing the questions of who are Gypsies\, Roma and Travellers?);\nIncreased their awareness regarding the obstacles\, prejudice and discrimination faced by Romani and Traveller communities in Wales more widely across the UK and across Europe;\nIdentified obstacles to access and attitudinal issues or barriers in accessing education\, health\, employment\, accommodation\, justice and other public services\, that inhibit the delivery of quality provision to Romania and Traveller people communities;\nImproved participants’ understandings of how to engage effectively with the Romani and Traveller communities and what they can do to prevent exclusion and ensure inclusion in the delivery of their services;\nDeveloped an approach that will put their learning into practice\, in the workplace;\nEstablished a baseline of knowledge and support that can be accessed to assist other staff\, officers and co-workers.\n\nThere are only 50 places available so please book early to avoid disappointment. DESCRIPTION:Join Ofgem’s CEO\, Dermot Nolan\, who will be in Cardiff on Wednesday 27th June to discuss the Default Tariff Cap consultation and the soon to be published Vulnerability Report. \nJoin Ofgem at the new Cardiff office in The Maltings\, East Tyndall Street where they’ll be hosting two short workshops: \n\nFrom 1pm – 2.30pm Dermot and the Vulnerability team will talk you through the Vulnerability Report\, which gives insight into how well suppliers have supported vulnerable consumers in 2017. You will cover areas such as additional services vulnerable consumer need to engage in the market\, how well suppliers support consumers in debt and how they are helping them stay on supply.\nThis workshop will discuss GB level trends and highlight specific issues that we see in Wales. It will give you valuable insight into how vulnerable consumers are experiencing the energy market and enable you to work together with the energy suppliers to improve their performance\, share best practice and better support vulnerable consumers across Wales. \nFrom 2.45pm – 4.15pm Dermot and Ofgem’s Retail Price Regulation team will be discussing the proposals to protect consumers on standard variable and default tariffs\, following the launch of our Default Tariff Cap consultation in May.\n\nThis workshop will give you the opportunity discover what they’re consulting on and what this means for you. You will have an opportunity for debate and discuss the plans throughout the afternoon as they seek your feedback into the 2018 Default Tariff Cap consultation.
