SUMMARY:“Keeping Our Children Safe” Training for Designated Person for Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:Two-day Children in Wales course \nAll children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect but recent events highlight\, yet again\, how difficult it can be for so many adults to recognise\, and act on concerns about the safety or welfare of a child. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child. The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised. This course is aimed at people acting in the ‘Designated Person’ role working in a variety of organisations including schools\, children’s daycare and residential settings\, also services providing support to children and families in the voluntary and private sector. \nThis two-day training course will consider: \n\nThe role of the Designated Person and how this can be incorporated into your organisation\nLegislation and guidance on safeguarding children and young people\, particularly within the Welsh context\nEssential safeguarding measures that need to be in place\nThe ‘abuse of trust’ and how to remain alert to potential sexual offences within the organisation\nAssessing concerns about a child and making a referral to social services if necessary\nThe statutory child protection system and what may be expected of you\nConfidentiality and good record keeping\nDiversity and the additional vulnerabilities for some children\n\nBook via the Children in Wales website. \nTime each day: 9.30am to 4pm

SUMMARY:Living Wage Summit
DESCRIPTION:One in four workers in Wales does not earn enough to afford a basic standard of living. Many organisations and the majority of the public think this is deeply unfair – so what should be done? \nThe Bevan Foundation’s Living Wage Summit is a unique opportunity to explore how to achieve a step change in the number of Living Wage employers and employees. You will learn about the Bevan Foundation’s recommendations for Wales and Cardiff Capital Region\, and hear from leading experts in the field. There will also be opportunities for discussion and networking. \nThe Living Wage is key to reducing poverty and increasing equality (especially gender) and it would be a great shame if the spare places went to waste. Attendance is free but there will be a £35 charge for people who book but do not attend. \nBook online \n

SUMMARY:Introduction to Soft Outcomes and Distance Travelled
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nThe Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014 came into force on 6th April this year and places a new focus on services supporting the well-being outcomes of the people they are working with.  The term ‘wellbeing’ is used to refer to the quality of people’s lives\, and covers both subjective and objective aspects.  Subjective well-being focuses on soft outcomes such as how people are feeling and how they perceive their lives and personal goals.  Objective well-being focuses on the conditions which affect those feelings such as health or education which are easier to measure in hard outcomes. Both of these perspectives are valuable for understanding children’s well-being. \nThis course is relevant for managers and practitioners who wish to demonstrate that their intervention has made a difference to outcomes for people they work with.  Budgets are tight and all organisations need to consider economy and efficiency\, but it is important to keep a focus on the effectiveness of services. This course will look at measuring the soft outcomes that your intervention has achieved for the people you work with. Participants will explore a range of methods that can be used with all groups – from children and young people to adults. \nThe course will include: \n\nClarification of the terminology used when evaluating the impact of your services\nAn exploration of why you need to measure qualitative information and how to do it\nConsidering what soft outcomes are relevant to your setting\nExploring a range of methods for measuring soft outcomes\nHow to assess the distance travelled by users of your service\nUsing information on outcomes to improve service delivery\n\nBook online
