SUMMARY:The Big Cardiff Tidy 2024 - Butetown Litter Picking Session
DESCRIPTION:Help us to keep Cardiff tidy by joining a free litter picking event in Butetown! Kit will be provided by Keep Wales Tidy! \nC3SC is kicking off The Big Cardiff Tidy 2024 campaign (21 September – 6 October) with a litter picking event at the heart of Butetown. Join C3SC employees and volunteers on Friday 20th September 10am-12pm and help us keep Cardiff tidy. \nThe event will start from Butetown Community Centre\, home of C3SC. Equipment will be provided by Keep Wales Tidy\, who support litter picking initiatives across Cardiff. \nPlease arrive fifteen minutes before the session to collect your litter picking kit. If you have your own kit you are welcome to use it. \nThis is a great chance to try volunteering for yourself\, and make a positive impact in your community. C3SC staff and volunteers will be on hand to support you during the event\, and are available for any questions you may have about volunteering and the third sector. \nThe Big Cardiff Tidy campaign is being led by Keep Wales Tidy\, Love Where You Live and Cardiff Rivers Group who aim to organise as many litterpicks as possible between 21 September and 6 October. SUMMARY:C3SC Trustees Network - August 2024
DESCRIPTION:An online event for new and existing trustees in Cardiff to share and learn more about trusteeship\, delivered by C3SC. \nWe know that Management Committee Members and Trustees deliver vital leadership roles in charities and not-for-profit groups across Cardiff. We also know that many Management Committee Members and trustees value opportunities to build and share their skills and experience with peer Networks. \nSafeguarding – is everybody’s business – should be a priority for all the Management Committee Members and Trustees of charities and not-for-profit groups\, especially those working with children\, young people and vulnerable adults. Good and appropriate safeguarding provides public reassurance about your charity / community group and contributes to the positive reputation of the charitable sector in general. \nC3SC Trustees Network will meet on Tuesday 20th August 2024 with a one hour and a half online session between 14:00pm-15:30pm. \nJoin us at this session which will feature a presentation from Carol Eland\, Regional Outreach Adviser (Wales) at UK government Disclosure and Barring Services who will run an “Advice Cafe” on safeguarding\, safer recruitment\, levels of certificates\, regulated activity and legal duty to refer. Management Committee Members and Trustees will have an overview of their responsibilities on safeguarding. \nThe Forum gives an opportunity for people who have safeguarding responsibilities in charities\, voluntary organisations and community groups (including staff who hold the portfolio for safeguarding) to come together\, share learning and good practice\, make alliances and receive up to date information from the guest speaker and presenter. They will also help to co-produce the agenda going forward. \nAlongside networking opportunities\, the Trustees network meetings are an opportunity for members of C3SC to come together with like-minded peers and connect with partners to provide insight\, influence\, and develop solutions to local challenges. \nWe are inviting your views to find out how the C3SC Trustee’s network can help Management Committee Members and Trustees to be more confident and connected in your role. DESCRIPTION:Lloyds Bank Foundation currently have 2 programmes open\, one is a Cash Grant and the other is a Development Support offer. \n \nC3SC in partnership with Lloyds Bank Foundation is hosting this online “Meet the Funder” event on Tuesday 23rd July between 13:00 -14:00 to further explore the following Lloyds Bank Foundation funding opportunities:- \nDeaf and Disabled people’s organisations (DDPO) (3 years) \nThis programme is aimed at registered charities and CICs with income between £25K and £500K which are led by and working for Deaf and Disabled people including Mental Health charities based on the social model of disability. \nThe organisation will work directly with Deaf\, Disabled and people with Mental Health conditions over the long term to support them to have more choice and control over their lives\, access their rights and entitlements and challenge the barriers they face. \nSuccessful applicants will receive unrestricted grant of £75\,000\, over three years (£25\,000 per year). \nClosing date is 28th August. Lloyds Bank Foundation is looking to fund 42 organisations in England and Wales. \nOrganisational Development Support Programme (2 years) \nThis is a two-year development support programme\, for charities only (not CIC) that help asylum seekers and refugees and have an income between £25k – £500k. This is not a funding programme and there is no cash grant linked to it. \nLloyds Bank Foundation want to share organisational development support offers with charities that they’re not able to fund and to helping small and local charities build on their strengths and grow more resilient so they can thrive over the long term. \nClosing date for applications is 1st August 5pm. Lloyds Bank Foundation is looking to support 60 charities in England and Wales with this programme. SUMMARY:Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training for third sector organisations
DESCRIPTION:Three hour MECC session tailored specifically to third sector organisations. \nC3SC has partnered with the local Public Health Team to deliver Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training to third sector organisations in Cardiff that have an interest in helping people improve their health and wellbeing. \nMany staff and volunteers in community groups and third sector organisations have regular interactions with the public. The training will provide tools that will help participants use those interactions as an opportunity to help people make healthy lifestyle choices. \nWhat will be covered at the training? \nThe training will provide up to date evidence-based information and resources on the subjects of smoking\, physical activity\, healthy eating\, alcohol\, mental wellbeing and immunisations. Participants will also be introduced to the ‘healthy chat’ model of behaviour change\, based around the three principles of ask\, advise and act. \nBy the end of the training participants will: \n\nUnderstand the basics of healthy behaviour change.\nHave up to date knowledge on health topics such as healthy eating\, alcohol\, mental wellbeing\, physical activity\, smoking and immunisations.\nHave increased confidence in initiating and having informal discussions related to healthy lifestyle choices.\nHave been provided with the resources and practical materials to help undertake healthy lifestyle conversations.\n\nThe training will take place face to face at Butetown Community Centre \nFor any further enquiry contact C3SC on 02920 485722 or enquiries@c3sc.org.uk

SUMMARY:C3SC's Starting Well Network meeting: June 2024
DESCRIPTION:Cardiff Third Sector Council will reconvene their Starting Well Network meeting on Wednesday 26th June\, with a two hour online session between 10am-12pm. \nMany families in Cardiff benefit from community schools that bring people with a shared identity together for learning opportunities that increase confidence and enhance community cohesion. The purpose of the session is to develop and strengthen links with and between community schools in Cardiff\, leading to future partnerships. The session will feature a presentation from Magda Thomas\, C3SC Volunteer Centre Support Officer and Trustee of Janusz Korczak’s Polish Saturday School\, who will be talking about her experience of running a charity which provides language and culture education for Polish children in Cardiff\, and we will share information on best practice in running community schools\, governance – including different options for setting up a school – volunteer recruitment\, funding opportunities and explore options for navigating the current challenging funding environment through partnerships\, alliances and joint funding. \nAlongside opportunities for networking\, connection\, and learning from peers\, the Forum gives an opportunity for Third Sector groups working with children\, young people and families to meet up and receive up to date information from guest speakers and presenters\, provide insight and influence\, develop solutions to local challenges\, and make alliances. \nNetwork members are always welcome to share your ideas and co-produce the meetings agenda. SUMMARY:Introduction to Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:The training will help you improve your knowledge on welcoming volunteers to your organisation. It would be suitable for volunteer managers\, coordinators\, supervisors\, team leaders and individuals who have responsibility for recruiting\, training and managing volunteers. Volunteers are welcome to apply and will be allocated a space\, on a first come first served basis. By the end of the course\, you will: \n\nUnderstand the nature and scope of volunteering and how it differs from paid work​\nRecognise how and why organisations involve volunteers in their work\nAppreciate the resource implications of involving volunteers\n\nDate: Wednesday 19th June 2024 \nTime: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm \nThe training will be hybrid\, taking place on Microsoft Teams and In person at Butetown Communitty Centre. SUMMARY:C3SC Shared Prosperity Small Grant Fund: Information session
DESCRIPTION:The Cardiff Shared Prosperity Fund Small Grants Scheme for 2024-25 is now live. \n  \nC3SC will host an online information session on their 2024/25 Shared Prosperity Small Grant scheme. \n  \nThis fund is in partnership with Cardiff Council to explore how the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) – an initiative by the UK Government as a central pillar of the Levelling Up agenda and successor to the European Social Fund – can provide support to communities and places in Cardiff. \n  \nThe C3SC Small Grants Scheme will provide grants of up to £5\,000 for third-sector organisations to deliver projects which work with the aims and objectives of the Shared Prosperity Fund. This grant scheme will focus on addressing the issues detailed under the Community & Place priority\, as follows: \n  \n\nW1: Funding for improvements to town centres and high streets\, including better accessibility for disabled people\, including capital spend and running costs.\n\n\nW2: Funding for new\, or improvements to existing\, community and neighbourhood infrastructure projects including those that increase communities’ resilience to natural hazards\, such as flooding\, and investment in locally owned renewable energy generation and waste management to improve the transition to low carbon living This could cover capital spend and running costs.\nW3: Creation of and improvements to local green spaces\, community gardens\, watercourses and embankments\, along with incorporating natural features and biodiversity improvements into wider public space.\nW4: Enhanced support for existing cultural\, historic and heritage institutions that make up the local cultural and heritage offer\, including improvements to access to sites to counter the effects of isolation\, particularly for older people and disabled people.\nW5: Design and management of the built and landscaped environment to ‘design out crime’.\nW6: Support for local arts\, cultural\, heritage and creative activities.\nW7: Support for active travel enhancement and other small-scale green transport infrastructure projects\, having regard to the Wales Transport Strategy.\nW8: Funding for the development and promotion of wider campaigns and year-round experiences which encourage people to visit and explore the local area.\nW9: Funding for impactful volunteering and/or social action projects to develop social and human capital in local places.\nW10: Funding for local sports facilities\, tournaments\, teams and leagues; to bring people together.\nW11: Investment in capacity building and infrastructure support for local civil society and community groups.\nW12: Investment in community engagement schemes to support community involvement in decision making in local regeneration.\nW13: Community measures to reduce the cost of living\, including through measures to improve energy efficiency\, and combat fuel poverty and climate change.\nW14: Funding to support relevant feasibility studies.\nW15: Investment and support for digital infrastructure for local community facilities.\n\nInitial closing date for applications is 12pm on Friday 21st June. \n \nProposed projects can start from August 2024 and may be funded up to the end of February 2025. \n \nClick here to sign up to the information session \nFor any further enquiry contact C3SC on 02920 485722 or enquiries@c3sc.org.uk
