SUMMARY:'Pulling Our Weight Together' drop-in
DESCRIPTION:An informal chat about health and well-being for anyone who fancies a free cup of tea or coffee! \nEvery day\, we all make choices which affect our health and well-being. Many of us face challenges in trying to maintain a healthy weight\, whether because we’re overweight\, underweight or just trying to keep a healthy weight. In particular\, being overweight or obese can impact hugely upon our health. \nThe good news is that there’s a lot we can all do to help each other; in our communities\, organisations\, schools\, the NHS and councils\, the voluntary sector\, Welsh Government and the food and drinks industry. \nWe want to have a conversation with everyone about what we are all doing to achieve and maintain a healthy weight and how we can take action together. We’re keen to hear from individuals\, groups\, communities and organisations as to what we can all do and how we can each become involved. It could be activities in communities\, schools or in the workplace; changes to services; different foods in our shops or in our schools; policy change by government or even reducing the speed limits on our roads to encourage walking and cycling. \nWhy don’t you drop in?

SUMMARY:Welsh Tenants Annual Conference - Building Bridges
DESCRIPTION:The Welsh Government have embarked on a big programme of change to housing with two extremely ambitious and sector changing pieces of legislation\, in the form of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 and Renting Homes (Wales) bill – soon to be enacted. \nThe Building Bridges conference is both a positive affirmation of the approach the government in Wales is taking on housing\, and an exploration of what is still required to address the key concerns of people whom rent\, with continued austerity\, their perceptions of widening inequality and the future of housing supply and rents in Wales being key concerns of the tenants movement. The conference aims to debate these changes as well as the key challenges as we approach the Welsh Assembly elections in May 2016. \nThe conference also celebrates\, supports and promotes the Chwarae Teg 50:50 campaign highlighting the key role women have played\, and continue to play in Wales\, with the event being the first all women speaker event in Wales. \nRead more at www.welshtenants.org.uk/annual-conference/

SUMMARY:Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) Level 2
DESCRIPTION:A morning of innovative delivery of safeguarding training\nSafeguarding Adults: It’s everybody’s businessThe protection of vulnerable adults against psychological\, sexual\, emotional\, physical and financial abuse is powerfully explored in this unique interactive workshop. \nSessions are designed around carefully researched case studies exploring situations which have led to the abuse of adults. Drama and discussion are used to approach the issues faced by frontline staff and managers in an accessible way\, inspiring and shaping new conversations about how best to respond in situations where adults are at risk. \nDrawing directly from National and Local Safeguarding Policies and Procedures for Adults\, Dignity in Care guidance and the Serious Case Review into the death of Steven Hoskin\, the three-hour workshop develops  essential awareness of the individual roles and responsibilities of all staff and managers with regard to:· Recognising Abuse· Reporting Abuse· Preventing Abuse \nWe are passionate about the live experience and our skilled actors and facilitators create scenarios which challenge perceptions and communicate critical messages with lasting impact. By creating a safe\, dynamic training environment\, a range of perspectives and alternative outcomes can be explored. Our goal is to provide frontline staff and managers with the knowledge and confidence to ensure nothing is missed in their day to day exposure to potential abuse situations. \nWe deliver training for staff and managers working within the following areas:· Adult Service Providers· Care Homes· Health· Voluntary & Independent Sector· Housing \nHow to bookTraining courses run by Cardiff Council are now only accessible via the ‘Cardiff Council Academy Online on Learning Pool’. SUMMARY:‘Let’s talk cancer’ report launch
DESCRIPTION:The ‘crowd’ have had their say\, so what do the decision makers think? Over the past four months the Institute of Welsh Affairs has been asking those affected by cancer to give them their ideas of how to improve care and treatment in Wales. The website ‘letstalkcancer.wales’ and submission boxes at health centres across Wales captured over 100 ideas in just six weeks. \nOver the Summer IWA has worked through the highest rated ideas\, spoken with experts and practitioners and are developing these ideas into practical policy solutions for the NHS in Wales. \nThey want these ideas to become real changes that will improve care for people affected by cancer. \nOn Thursday 24th September\, IWA will be launching their recommendations and putting them to the Deputy Minister for Health\, and each of the political parties in the Assembly as part of a panel discussion. \nThis is a free event\, but booking is essential. \nBook online

SUMMARY:Understanding and preparing accounts under the new SORP
DESCRIPTION:Delivered by Watts Gregory LLP and Whittingham Riddell Chartered Accounts. \nSummer 2014 saw the release of the new charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice). With the exception of charities who prepare their accounts on a receipts and payments basis\, this was the first change in charity financial reporting for over a decade. \nThis interactive half-day WCVA seminar will explain how you need to prepare charity accounts\, using practical examples and case studies. It will deal with the impact of the new SORP on the accounts\, but will also give a refresher on the basic principles that remain unchanged. This is essential material for those in the finance function involved in preparing accounts\, and for trustees who are dealing with the expanded requirements for the Trustees Report. \nFind out more and book your place via the WCVA website. This seminar will be followed by a Protecting your charity from risk and fraud seminar. \nMorning session.

SUMMARY:Protecting your charity from risk and fraud
DESCRIPTION:Delivered by Watts Gregory LLP and Whittingham Riddell Chartered Accounts. \nThe vast majority of people working in the voluntary sector are honest and committed. However\, charities are not exempt from fraudulent activity – as is evident from recent press reports. It is therefore vital that organisations know what the dangers are and put in place sensible measures to prevent or detect fraud. \nThis WCVA seminar will help make you aware of the ‘danger signs’ and of the sort of controls needed to minimise risks. It will also provide a refresher on good general and financial risk management. \nFind out more and book your space via the WCVA website. This seminar will be preceded by a ‘Understanding and preparing accounts under the new SORP’ seminar. \nAfternoon session.
