SUMMARY:Protecting your charity from risk and fraud
DESCRIPTION:Delivered by Watts Gregory LLP and Whittingham Riddell Chartered Accounts. \nThe vast majority of people working in the voluntary sector are honest and committed. However\, charities are not exempt from fraudulent activity – as is evident from recent press reports. It is therefore vital that organisations know what the dangers are and put in place sensible measures to prevent or detect fraud. \nThis WCVA seminar will help make you aware of the ‘danger signs’ and of the sort of controls needed to minimise risks. It will also provide a refresher on good general and financial risk management. \nFind out more and book your space via the WCVA website. This seminar will be preceded by a ‘Understanding and preparing accounts under the new SORP’ seminar. \nAfternoon session.

SUMMARY:Understanding the new homelessness legislation
DESCRIPTION:At the end of April this year\, Wales introduced its own distinct way of dealing with homelessness. The Housing (Wales) Act 2014 created new duties for local authorities to help prevent homelessness for anyone who asks for help. \nAt the same time the Housing Act created other major changes in the rights of people facing homelessness\, by removing automatic priority need for prison leavers\, and allowing local authorities to discharge homelessness duties with an offer of private rented accommodation without the consent of the applicant. Agencies are being encouraged to work together for the benefit of applicants and to resolve conflicting approaches at an early stage. Independent advisers are being brought closer into some local authority teams\, while social landlords have new legal duties to cooperate in the prevention of homelessness. \nThis Shelter Cymru one-day course will provide delegates with a clear basic overview of the new law and its implementation to date. \nWho is it for? \nEssential core training for advisors at the front line of implementing the new legislation and as an updater. \nIt is advised that delegates book for the Code of Guidance briefing for a full understanding of the recent changes. \nBook online
