SUMMARY:Parental Alienation
DESCRIPTION:FNF – BOTH PARENTS MATTER CYMRU is delighted to invite you to a seminar on parental alienation. \nThere are many reasons why a child becomes alienated from a parent but whatever the route\, the result is\, for parents\, akin to a living bereavement. Research shows us that the impact of this on children and families can be devastating. \nThe seminar will explain the concept of the alienated child\, the research evidence that supports this and will highlight best practice when protecting the rights of children. It will also stimulate discussion about the concept in the context of the Welsh Government’s Children’s Rights Measure 2011. \nKaren Woodall is the Director of the Centre for Separated Families\, a charity working with everyone affected by family separation. She is the author of several publications on children and families including Putting Children First published by Piatkus and Oxfam. Karen is a family therapist working in the High Courts with conflicted families where children have rejected a parent.

SUMMARY:South Wales Programme Third Sector Engagement Workshop
DESCRIPTION:You may have heard that a debate has been launched about potential changes to the location of some hospital services locally. Health boards across South Wales\, including Cardiff and Vale\, have come together to look at a small number of specialist\, but important\, services to explore how best to tackle some of the issues they face in providing them safely. They’ve called this work the South Wales Programme. \nWorking with more than 300 clinicians across South Wales\, the Programme has identified some specialist services across South Wales where they think there may be a need to rethink where and how these services are provided. \n   \nThe services being looked at are: \n – some specialist maternity services (obstetrics) – some specialist inpatient services for children and babies born very prematurely (paediatrics and neonatal services) – accident and emergency and trauma services.  \n  \nYou can find out more about the ideas and how to engage in the debate at www.cardiffandvaleuhb.wales.nhs.uk/swp  \n  \nNo decisions have yet been made and the Health Boards are keen to know what the public think about the issues facing the NHS and the possible scenarios being considered for concentrating 24/7 consultant-led care in South Wales. Based on the comments and advice received in this engagement phase\, which runs until 19th December\, a series of options will be developed and formally consulted on early next year. As part of  the crucial engagement phase\,  Vale Centre for Voluntary Services and Cardiff Third Sector Council are hosting an engagement event for Third Sector Organisations to inform and offer a chance to get involved. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board clinical leads will present the ideas being explored at this session. Views and discussion from the event will inform a joint response from the CVCs. South Wales Programme Third Sector Engagement Workshop16th November 10am to 1pmat Cardiff Central Library\, The Hayes\, Cardiff CF10 1FL \nRefreshments provided \nTo book your place and find out more\, please email Kevin Rahman-Daultrey\, Health and Social Care Facilitator at Cardiff Third Sector Council at kevin.r@c3sc.org.uk

SUMMARY:Bringing Human Trafficking Out of the Shadows
DESCRIPTION:Between 500\,000 and 800\,000 women are trafficked each year in the EU. In 2011\, the Metropolitan Police estimated that up to 11\,800 women may have been trafficked into England and Wales and there are at least 10\,000 slaves in the UK. \nVictims of human trafficking are victims of coercion\, exploitation\, deception\, kidnap\, false imprisonment and rape. And they are not only adults and teenagers. The UN estimates that some 1.2m children are trafficked across the world each year. \nIn response to the growing need to raise public awareness and improve support for victims of human trafficking\, BAWSO\, in partnership with Gwent Police and Welsh Women’s Aid\, is bringing together experts from around the world to an International Conference on Human Trafficking. \nThis conference will integrate European knowledge and provide a platform to bring together case studies and best practices with important contributions from EU policymakers\, international organisations and NGOs from across Europe. It will also facilitate policy discussion and explore comprehensive and integrated solutions to fighting the ‘hidden’ crime of human trafficking.Find out more on the BAWSO website.

SUMMARY:Attachment and its Role in Children's Lives
DESCRIPTION:This Children in Wales course is aimed at all those interested in the emotional development of babies and children\, and particularly those working with\, or supporting\, children and families in stressful circumstances. Attachment disorder has come to be understood as a major contributor to behavioural and emotional problems in children\, and in the development of personality disorders in adulthood. Understanding the importance of attachment in early development and how to recognise when family bonds are undermined are critical skills for those working with families. SUMMARY:WCVA Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:The title of this year’s WCVA conference is ‘I matter\, we matter: Co-production in action’. \nWCVA believes the third sector can improve services for people in Wales by co-production: designing and delivering services with the people who use them and in their communities.  \nCo-production is a working partnership that puts people at the centre and draws on the resources of the individual and the community\, as well as those of the service provider\, where everyone has something to give and everyone benefits. \nThis year\, WCVA’s Annual Conference will explore the meaning\, mechanics and models of co-production that is happening right now in Wales and\, importantly\, opportunities for more co-production. \nTell WCVA what you’re doing now! \nWCVA wants to hear from you about your own co-producing. They know some of the good work under way across Wales but they want to showcase and share best practice at the conference. \nSend your examples to Gareth Coles at gcoles@wcva.org.uk by 31 October 2012. \n  \nThe conference programme and booking information will follow soon.
