SUMMARY:Free training: The Bigger Picture -  Working with Children and Families in Wales
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis Children in Wales three-hour workshop is aimed at supporting a better informed and engaged multi-agency cross-sector workforce to deliver Welsh Government Policy. The session will support people from a wide range of organisations to understand the distinctive Welsh legislative and policy framework for children and families\, that has developed as a result of increasing devolution from Westminster.  \nThe session will consider current Welsh legislation around children and families\, Welsh Government policy and strategies on issues including how children’s rights are being addressed through initiatives on child poverty\, health\, social care and education. The workshop will explore Welsh Government programmes including Families First\, Flying Start\, Communities First and Integrated Family Support considering the roles and priorities of different sectors involved in delivering these\, and the challenges faced by everyone. \nParticipants will: \n\nGain an overview of the political context and processes that shape policy in Wales\nLearn about Welsh Government policies and strategies relevant to children and young people\nUnderstand the national priorities for children and family services\nExplore how your organisation and key areas of work fit with the main policy areas concerning children\, young people and families\n\nWho should attend? \nPractitioners\, managers and policy makers from all sectors and all organisations keen to explore how their area of work fits in with the bigger picture of child and family policy in Wales. SUMMARY:Poverty Truth Commission meeting
DESCRIPTION:Poverty Truth Commission (PTC) has been launched in both Scotland and Leeds (see below) and has been hugely successful. It is noted for giving a voice to people who are actually experiencing poverty. \nAndrew Grinnell\, who has been part of the support team of the PTC in Leeds (see here for more info)\, will be coming down to Cardiff on November 25th and 26th to hold a series of meetings with key leaders from a range of backgrounds and different sectors. The purpose of these meetings will be: \n\nto secure leaders’ support in  principle for the initiative\nto secure leaders’ willingness to advocate this approach\nfor leaders to consider ways in which they can be involved\, including being part of the PTC steering group\n\nYou are invited to a meeting on Thursday 26th November from 12.00-2.00pm at the offices of Oxfam Cymru\, Market Chambers\, 5th Floor\, 5-7 St Mary’s Street\, Cardiff CF10 1AT. \nAndrew will explain how the Poverty Truth Commission has worked in Leeds and there will be ample time for questions and observations. Positive early years experiences and supportive home environments\, workplaces and communities have a huge role to play in addressing some of these issues.   \nThe day will focus on practical workshops of what is working in this key area of tackling poverty. \nThe Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty will explain her long term vision for addressing poverty in Wales and the Welsh Government priorities going forward \nAn agenda will follow closer to the time.
