SUMMARY:Understanding Hate Crime workshop
DESCRIPTION:‘Incidents targeting people because of who they are (e.g. hate crimes) are under-reported\, meaning many victims are unable to access the support they need\, or to secure justice’. In 2011/12\, there were 1809 hate incidents and crimes reported to the police in Wales\, of which 1368 were racially and religiously motivated\, 244 were motivated by homophobia; 21 by transphobia and 122 reports of attacks against disabled people. \nThe aim of this workshop is to: promote awareness of race\, faith\, homophobic\, biphobic\, transphobic and disability hate crime; identify strategies to raise awareness within your workplace and the community and know what to do if you suspect a hate crime has been committed. \nThe session is highly interactive and case study led. Various training methods will be used\, including details of cases which some participants may find a little disturbing.   \n    \nFeedback comments: \n‘Eye-opening day. Incredibly helpful on both occupational and personal level’; \n‘Achieved above and beyond. More than I could have wished for’; \n‘I understand more about stress and different ways to cope’; \n‘A really enjoyable experience’ \n    \nThe tutor is Mark Roberts\, a Training Delivery Manager with Diverse Cymru. Until March 2013 Mark managed the Anti-Hate Crime project at Safer Wales Ltd\, a Cardiff-based charity. Mark delivers Hate Crime awareness\, anti-homophobia\, transgender awareness and challenging extremism training courses. He currently chairs the Cardiff Community Cohesion Group and was a founding member of the Disability Hate Crime Action Group\, Cymru. \nGo to http://www.diversecymrutraining.org.uk/understanding-hate-crime/ for more information and to book a place on this course. The deadline for booking a place is the 23rd August.

SUMMARY:"Keeping Our Children Safe" Training for Designated Person for Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course \nAll children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect but recent events highlight\, yet again\, how difficult it can be for so many adults to recognise\, and act on concerns about the safety or welfare of a child.  The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child. The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised. \nThis two-day training course will consider:  \n – The role of the Designated Person and how this can be incorporated into your organisation – Legislation and guidance on safeguarding children and young people\, particularly within the Welsh context – Essential safeguarding measures that need to be in place – The ‘abuse of trust’ and how to remain alert to potential sexual offences within the organisation – Assessing concerns about a child and making a referral to social services if necessary – The statutory child protection system and what may be expected of you – Confidentiality and good record keeping – Diversity and the additional vulnerabilities for some children \n  \nPrice: \nMembers £165 \nNon members £195 \nBook via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:Making Wales work better - Inspiring Black and Minority Ethnic communities to become involved in public life
DESCRIPTION:Making Wales work better – Inspiring Black & Minority Ethnic communities to become involved in public lifePublic appointments : Voter registration : Democratic engagement : Civic engagement \nDiverse Cymru in partnership with Operation Black Vote\, the GMB Wales and South West region\, and the BME Communities that it supports has 0recognised the low representation in Public Life of BME individuals. SUMMARY:Risk and Resilience in Cyberspace: Exploring Young People's Use of Multi Media
