SUMMARY:Cardiff Dialogue Day for SE Wales Africa Links
DESCRIPTION:This event is being held in partnership with the Welsh Centre for International Affairs and SSAAP. \nAgenda Framework \nThe dialogue days will have agendas tailored around the interests of each regional network\, however the common themes will be: \nUpdates (30-40 minutes) \n – \nImpact – Wales Africa Community Links will launch their Impact Report celebrating achievements and learning across the network; and discuss how groups can use the report and resources to promote their own work\, and to deepen the impact of their own projects. \n – \nInclusion: the SSAAP will summate the findings of their recent diaspora mapping exercise so that groups around Wales can identify and engage with diaspora communities with country knowledge / skills / contacts relevant to their project work. \n – \nInspiration: the Wales International Development Hub will outline proposals and ideas so far for the March 2014 Wales International Development Summit in Cardiff\, and open a discussion around what participants would like to see\, what would inspire them to attend / promote to others\, and any key issues / topics that should be covered. \nInteraction (1 hour): \n – Round table discussions around any topics that attendees want to talk about among each other\, teasing out key issues / challenges / opportunities for organisations locally. These could include for example impact monitoring and evaluation; diaspora inclusion; visa problems fro African visits; recruiting volunteers; fundraising and grants; organising joint local events; raising local / regional profile of Africa network; etc. \n‘Into Action’ (10-15 minutes) \n – Draw together key points emerging from each discussion\, identify any issues that can be fed into planning for Summit; any other follow-up / action points; and ensure any ‘parked issues’ get heard / captured. \nNetworking – 30-45 mins will be reserved for groups to continue networking\, socialise and to share some mince pies\, coffee or mulled wine.

SUMMARY:Tree of Hope
DESCRIPTION:The idea for the Tree of Hope came from Living Room Cardiff CEO’s visit to a ground-breaking Philadelphia Treatment Centre as part of his Churchill Fellowship in America. The concept of the tree is to demonstrate recovery from addiction is a reality and does happen.Wynford Ellis Owen was struck at the simplicity of the Tree of Hope concept and thought it a great idea to bring to Wales to mark our first Christmas at Living Room Cardiff. It has since evolved into a regular event which is celebrated by everyone who inhabit the Baptist College site and by other treatment providers and service users in Cardiff and throughout South Wales.Everyone is welcome to join us for our celebrations at 5.30pm on 11th December 2013\, where they can collect their individual stars to place on the Tree of Hope. Visitors are also free to tour the centre\, speak to people who work here and enjoy mince pies and sing Christmas carols. Living Room Cardiff would also like to thank Pugh’s garden centre for their generosity in supplying the beautiful Christmas tree every year. The event culminates with an authentic curry which is the talk of the town.To have a special message inscribed on an individual star of hope\, please call Living Room Cardiff on 029 2049 3895 or email LivingRoom-cardiff@cais.org.uk by 9th December 2013.
