SUMMARY:Wales Third Sector Funding Conference 2014
DESCRIPTION:Each year at the Funding Conference delegates from across Wales gather to examine the myriad of funding strategies available to the sector\, from grants and trusts to online trading and community fundraising. \n  \nThe third sector is continually asked to do more and more\, but we’re asked to do this with less and less funding – and there’s a lot of competition for the money that is available. That’s where the Wales third sector funding conference comes in. We’ll be looking at how we can help your group make a better ask for funding\, whether you’re raising funds from trusts\, businesses\, Big Lottery Fund\, Europe or are simply trying to find a way to increase donations from your supporters. We’ll be hearing from Michael Norton OBE\, a ‘serial social entrepreneur’ on innovations in fundraising\, Paul Streets of the Lloyds Bank Foundation will examine the challenges faced by the groups they fund and Simi Epstein of Hope House Children’s Hospice will show how they refocused their fundraising efforts to ‘make a better’ ask. And there’s a selection of 22 workshops covering: \n – Digital fundraising – Making a better ask to Big Lottery Fund – Crowdfunding – Asking businesses for support – Joint working – Measuring and communicating impact \nAnd much more besides.   If you’re not confident when approaching potential funders\, this is where you can learn to make your ask stand out. Read the full programme and book here. \n  \n

SUMMARY:E-Safety With the Under 8s
DESCRIPTION:A half-day Children in Wales course \nChildren are increasingly becoming regular users of internet connected devices from a very young age.  A study ‘Children and parents: Media use and attitudes in the nations’\, published by Ofcom in 2012 reported that in each of the four nations over 80% of children aged 5-15 use the internet at home. Parents of children aged 5 -15 in Wales are more likely than the UK average to have concerns about content on the internet (25% vs. 17%) and smartphone ownership among 5 -15s has increased in all four nations since 2011.  Adults who care for and support young children\, and their parents often express a lack of confidence in using and managing access to the technology that the children take for granted. \nThis course is aimed at anyone working with children under 8 years old and who wants to ensure that any access to new technology (computers\, tablets\, games consoles\, smart phones etc) is both safe and appropriate. It is particularly suitable for adults who are not IT specialists. \n  \nAims \nFor adults who work directly with younger children or with their parents to better understand the implications of internet use in this age group.  To explore concerns\, and to develop some practical methods to support safe use of a range of devises that are increasing becoming an integral part of the daily lives of young children. \n  \nLearning outcomes \nParticipants will: \n – Understand the ways in which children are able to access the internet – Consider both the risks and benefits of younger children using internet connected devices – Understand the benefits and shortcomings of using parental controls on a variety of devices – Devised a set of ground rules for safe use of the internet and computers – Be able to support children to better protect themselves online – Identify warning signs to be aware of and how to report concerns  \n  \nCosts: Members £60   Non Members £80 \nFind out more and book via the Children in Wales website. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Welsh Government grants to the third sector – meeting

The meeting will be chaired by Phil Jarrold\, Acting Chief Executive of WCVA\, and Welsh Government officials from the Third Sector Unit and the Grants Centre of Excellence will be present. \nWCVA will be giving evidence to the Finance Committee on 16 October 2014 about the Welsh Government Draft Budget 2015-16\, and would like to ensure that they can reflect the third sector’s recent funding experience as accurately as possible. \nTo reserve a place\, please email Nicola Bethell on nbethell@wcva.org.uk\, indicating your name\, organisation and which Welsh Government grants programmes you currently access. Please also include any access requirements. \n  \nPlease note: this meeting is for organisations that receive direct Welsh Government grant funding. SUMMARY:International Treatment Effectiveness Project training (ITEP)
DESCRIPTION:  \nInternational Treatment Effectiveness Programme (ITEP) is a mechanism by which quality of drug treatment can be developed and measured in order to improve delivery of treatment services. It will explain the use of free mapping and structured mapping for personal use\, service user work and supervision settings and will examine the use of mind maps. In addition participants will learn how to select the appropriate maps to practice use to maximise confidence and adapt to current and future working roles. \nVoluntary Sector £125.00\, Statutory Sector £135.00 \n  \nTo book onto the course or for further information – Telephone: 029 2052 9002 or email info@newlinkwales.org.uk or visit www.newlinkwales.org.uk \n  \n
