SUMMARY:Getting it right: a better private rented sector for everyone
DESCRIPTION:Private renters have nowhere near the same access to support as social tenants. With more and more people looking to the PRS for long-term housing\, action must be taken to ensure that vulnerable private tenants don’t suffer alone and that landlords are supported to increase their understanding of the different needs of vulnerable tenants.   This seminar includes the best examples of innovative working from within Wales and beyond to assist younger and older people\, homeless applicants\, prison leavers\, disabled people and others to live a quality life in private rented housing. The new Housing (Wales) Act includes new powers for local authorities to house homeless households in the PRS – we will be looking at how local authorities are gearing up for the change.  The seminar will also look at the implications of the Renting Homes Bill for tenants and landlords\, and the Welsh Government’s model contract to ask how well it meets the needs of people with different communication needs. SUMMARY:First Ever Fertility Information Day in Wales
DESCRIPTION:  \nAround 1 in 6 couples in the UK today have difficulty conceiving\, affecting over 3.5 million people. The prospect of facing any kind of infertility can be very distressing to live with and many people believe that no-one else really understands what it feels like to have to face this. Infertility Network UK provides information and help those affected by infertility; through investigations\, treatment and beyond. \nAs a result of an Awards for All grant the charity is staging its first Wales Fertility Information Day in Cardiff. This follows success events in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The cost of the day is £10 and tickets can be purchased via http://bit.ly/1tkwTEf \nOn the day there will be a range of talks covering everything from what to expect at your first appointment to counselling and complementary therapies. Hear speakers from leading fertility clinics in Wales including Dr Hemlata Thackare and Louise Mitchell from London Women’s Clinic Wales and Paul Knaggs from Wales Fertility Institute – as well as Dimitrios Kafetzis from Newlife Clinic in Surrey. DESCRIPTION:  \nTarget Group \nThis is Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan Local Safeguarding Children Board’s training aimed at those professionals who are likely to participate in Child Protection Conferences\, Child Protection Core Groups or Strategy Meetings\, or who support\, advise or supervise staff who may become involved in the child protection process. \nIt is an expectation that participants will have undertaken introductory level safeguarding children training prior to coming on this course. The LSCB does not provide introductory level training. SUMMARY:SROI Practitioner Training
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe SROI Network is a social enterprise based in Liverpool that offers training and support to people interested in Social Return on Investment\, which is a methodology for helping people to measure social value. \nWant to make your organisation’s activities more effective for your stakeholders? Interested in demonstrating your hard work to partners\, funders and social investors? \nAs a social enterprise\, a continual concern is how to improve the quality of service you provide for your stakeholders – which areas need attention\, which are working well\, etc. Combined with a pressure to spend money wisely\, it can sometimes be difficult to see where to innovate in your organisation. Given the additional pressures of maintaining accountability and transparency to investors and board members\, this can lead an organisation to rocky waters. \nSROI\, or Social Return on Investment\, can provide a solution. It is a methodology for measuring social value which engages with stakeholders and analyses your activities by prioritising what matters to the people who use your service. This information can then guide the future direction of an organisation\, inform difficult decisions about where to invest resources to maximise social value and even act as an evaluative tool to highlight areas for improvement. \n  \nInterested? \nThe 2-day practitioner training provides a thorough overview of SROI from two main angles. The first day gives a practical\, interactive\, step-by-step introduction to the process of SROI via a case study that participants can bring along. SUMMARY:Discounted Promoting Energy Efficency Course
DESCRIPTION:Severn Wye (as part of the Energy Advice Training Consortium) has funding* from Welsh Government to provide the course ‘Promoting Energy Efficiency to Potential Customers’ at a discounted price. The full cost of the course is £210 but discounts are available for employed people living or working in Wales (o;rganisations with fewer than 250 people pay just £63 per person; organisations with more than 250 people pay £105 per person). (All prices exclusive of VAT) \nThe course is a one-day Skills First level 1 qualification called ‘Promoting Energy Efficiency’. This is great for those just starting out in the industry or for those who have a good understanding but need some help in communicating their knowledge to customers. They particularly see this as an important course for any customer-facing staff as it will help them to link measures together providing added service and satisfaction for the customer and opportunity of a cross-sell for the company. DESCRIPTION:  \nMHFA (Wales) is a 12-hour course which is funded and supported by the Welsh Government and its partners include the Public Health Wales\, Health Challenge Wales and Mind Cymru. MHFA is in 21 countries in the world. The idea of MHFA is that people should be taught how to perform basic ‘first aid’ for those exhibiting signs of mental distress\, just as they are commonly taught first aid for physical problems. MHFA improves mental health literacy and helps people to recognise the signs and symptoms of someone with mental health problems; to respond to various mental health crises\, engage with\, support and signpost people to appropriate professional help.  \nWhy attend? \nMental health problems are extremely common with one in four people experiencing some kind of mental health problem in any one year.
