SUMMARY:Too Young to Fail
DESCRIPTION:Save the Children invites you to attend: TOO YOUNG TO FAIL – Giving all children a fair chance in life \nAttendance is free and is on a first come\, first served basis. \nIt is widely acknowledged that living on or below the poverty line often traps children into a cycle of low educational attainment. These programmes involve parents\, families\, schools and community partners. \nYou are invited to attend a free event with lunch and refreshments (kindly sponsored by Novotel). However\, there is limited availability\, so you must RSVP as attendance will be on a first come\, first served basis. \n    \nSpeakers include: \n – Minister of Education and Skills\, Huw Lewis – Professor Lynn McDonald\, Middlesex University\, founder of FAST (Families and Schools Together) \n  \nBy attending the conference\, you will learn about opportunities to engage with our programmes including training\, collaborative working and funding support. You will also be able to hear the experiences of parents\, community partners and head teachers who have worked with Save the Children to date. \nPlease register for the event at http://tooyoungtofail.eventbrite.co.uk/ by 12pm Friday October 18th 2013.

SUMMARY:National Intelligence Event 2013 - free
DESCRIPTION:In the know? Do we understand our communities’ needs\, and how well we are meeting them? \nIn the current financial situation\, the need to be ‘in the know’ has never been so important. Our ability to target resources and to prioritise public services and ensure value for money is essential. \nIt is therefore vital that we understand our communities\, their needs\, and improved ways in which we can engage with citizens. It is also equally important that we are able to effectively evaluate whether the interventions and initiatives we are delivering are providing positive outcomes. \nThis one-day event will bring together national partners to: \n·        Explore the issues around obtaining meaningful evidence and insight. \n·        Address the challenges of obtaining data at a community level in Wales. \n·        Consider how commercial data can help fill the gaps in our knowledge. \n·        Understand the role effective evaluation plays in knowing if we’ve made a difference. \nThe event will include workshop sessions focussed on Welfare Reform\, Census information\, evaluation techniques and citizen engagement. \n   \nThis event will be of interest to you if you: \n·        Play a leadership role in your Local Service Board. \n·        Are involved in developing policies or plans\, such as the ‘Single Integrated Plan’ for your area. \n·        Plan or monitor the delivery of plans or services. \n·        Support the development and delivery of local plans and services through research or consultation within local authorities\, health\, police and other partner organisations. \n·        Are engaged in obtaining the views of citizens. \n    \nThis is a FREE event.

SUMMARY:Understanding Hate Crime workshop
DESCRIPTION:‘Incidents targeting people because of who they are (e.g. hate crimes) are under-reported\, meaning many victims are unable to access the support they need\, or to secure justice’. In 2011/12\, there were 1809 hate incidents and crimes reported to the police in Wales\, of which 1368 were racially and religiously motivated\, 244 were motivated by homophobia; 21 by transphobia and 122 reports of attacks against disabled people. \nThe aim of this workshop is to: promote awareness of race\, faith\, homophobic\, biphobic\, transphobic and disability hate crime; identify strategies to raise awareness within your workplace and the community and know what to do if you suspect a hate crime has been committed. \nThe session is highly interactive and case study led. SUMMARY:"Keeping Our Children Safe" Training for Designated Person for Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course \nAll children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect but recent events highlight\, yet again\, how difficult it can be for so many adults to recognise\, and act on concerns about the safety or welfare of a child.  The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child. The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised. \nThis two-day training course will consider:  \n – The role of the Designated Person and how this can be incorporated into your organisation – Legislation and guidance on safeguarding children and young people\, particularly within the Welsh context – Essential safeguarding measures that need to be in place – The ‘abuse of trust’ and how to remain alert to potential sexual offences within the organisation – Assessing concerns about a child and making a referral to social services if necessary – The statutory child protection system and what may be expected of you – Confidentiality and good record keeping – Diversity and the additional vulnerabilities for some children \n  \nPrice: \nMembers £165 \nNon members £195 \nBook via the Children in Wales website.
