What factors really make a difference to how we deal with adversity? What can practitioners do to make a difference? This one-day course explores how you can develop an approach that builds on strengths to help young people deal with adversity\, cope with change\, survive disappointment and manage crises. It will draw upon practice\, research and theory. Above all\, it will enable participants to reflect upon their experience and build on their own strengths. \nThe course will include: \n\nResilience\, risk and coping – what do we mean\nKey resilience qualities for individuals and families\nImplications of the different coping styles of young women and young men\nProtective factors for individuals\, families and communities\nThe significance of emotional intelligence\, problem solving and optimism\nListening to young people and families and developing relationships of care\nSupporting connectedness\n\nAbout the TrainerCris Hoskin has over 30 years’ experience of working with young people\, parents and families in a variety of settings. This includes working with young people and parents in mainstream school\, specialist (EBD) school\, child and adolescent mental health and in the Youth Justice System. She has also worked in the voluntary sector for a number of years managing projects nationally for the Youth Justice Board and the Home office. She has been delivering courses for a number of years on a part time basis. In 2010 Cris left her post as commissioning lead for parenting services in a Local Authority to become a full-time freelance trainer and consultant. DESCRIPTION:This Wales Audit Office seminar will look at how organisations can work together to provide the right service in the right setting\, with better outcomes for frequent users of public services. \nFrequent users of public services are those who regularly contact a specific or a range of public services. They make up a significant proportion of the demand on services that amounts to huge costs in terms of time and resource. This can create a risk of services being unable to meet an emergency. \nA number of public services are trialling new ways of managing frequent users and addressing their needs. They are putting the right tools in place to manage needs without emergency services\, leading to quicker resolution of issues and a better experience for the service user. Other public services are working together to share information in order to identify and meet the needs of frequent users. \nConsidering the provisions of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act\, this seminar provides an important opportunity.
