SUMMARY:Reducing Accidents in Early Years Childcare Settings
DESCRIPTION:This Children in Wales course is aimed at childminders and practitioners in settings such as Day Nurseries\, Playgroups and Home Settings. \nUnintentional injuries are very common\, particularly in the early years age group. In fact\, in Wales every year\, nearly 25\,000 under 5s attend accident and emergency departments as the result of an accident.  The sad fact is that around 90% of these accidents are preventable. \nWhilst the course does not cover the legal requirements and standards for registered settings\, it does provide invaluable information for keeping the children in your care safe and free from accidents. The course will also give you a greater understanding of safety\, a knowledge of effective interventions and dispel a number of myths around accidents. \n  \nThe course will include:An overview of common accidentsAn understanding of how these accidents happenSafety without compromising child developmentEffective interventionsThe 3 Es of injury preventionPractical sessions on understanding and assessing risk  \nThe practical risk assessment session will provide a useful tool for you to take back to use in your settings. SUMMARY:Launch of Sexual Health Outreach Team
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the free launch of the Sexual Health Outreach (SHOT) Team.  \nSHOT is a project funded through the Families First Programme from Welsh Government and carried out by Cardiff YMCA. They offer a confidential and non-judgemental outreach service for young people aged between 13 and 25\, allowing them to discuss their needs\, fears and concerns around sexual health with trained professionals in an informal setting of their choice. They currently provide one-to-one support and group sessions all over Cardiff. \nThe launch will be marked with guest speakers\, question and answer sessions\, opportunities to network with other organisation and increase knowledge\, as well as a market place to provide you with information about a wide variety of resources.  \nThe professional launch will commence from 3:00pm\, followed by the speakers\, with ample time being given for you to take part in activities and look through the market place. DESCRIPTION:An afternoon of innovative delivery of safeguarding training – POVA Level 2 \nThe protection of vulnerable adults against psychological\, sexual\, emotional\, physical and financial abuse is powerfully explored in this unique interactive workshop. \n   \nSessions are designed around carefully researched case studies exploring situations which have led to the abuse of adults. Drama and discussion are used to approach the issues faced by frontline staff and managers in an accessible way\, inspiring and shaping new conversations about how best to respond in situations where adults are at risk. DESCRIPTION:On 13th March Shelter Cymru has an expert on Disrepair facilitating a course ‘Inspecting a House’ in Cardiff.
