DESCRIPTION:In light of the recent Meeting the Housing Challenge: Building a consensus for action detailing the overarching principles of the forthcoming Welsh Housing Bill and the current consultation on the Social Services Bill Wales\, Cymorth Cymru has been working with Welsh Government officials to provide organisations working with vulnerable people the opportunity to consider both Bills together and help shape these important pieces of legislation. The day will provide a mixture of presentations and discussion on key elements of both Bills\, giving you the opportunity to debate the Welsh Government’s proposals to ensure that we maximise the impact of both pieces of legislation. \n  \nProgramme items include: \n· Overview of the Housing Bill \n· Overview of the Social Services Bill \n· Overview of the proposed interim arrangements to take forward the new SP Programme \n· Opportunities from the Housing Bill and the Social Services Bill to make services more citizen directed \n· Initial thoughts from the Sector: Cymorth Cymru\, Shelter Cymru\, CHC and local government \n  \nCymorth expects the new Housing Bill to include recommendations around homelessness and tenure which will be relevant to all Cymorth members. They also need to consider in what ways the Housing Bill and Social Services Bill together can help ensure all people have better access to a home and the support/care they need to build the life they aspire to. The programme will also explore the opportunities presented by both the Housing Bill and the Social Services Bill to make services more citizen directed. \n  \nIn addition\, they will also use this event to consult with members on the Proposed Interim Arrangements to take Forward the new SP Programme. As a result of the responses to the previous SP consultation\, the Welsh Government has issued a short consultation on Chapter 2 of the Supporting People Guidance which will feature as part of the programme for this consultation event.   \n  \nThis event is FREE to Cymorth Cymru members (a £50 no-show fee will apply if you book a space and do not attend) or £50 + VAT to non-members. SUMMARY:Protecting Black and Minority Ethnic Children
DESCRIPTION:This Children in Wales workshop will be facilitated by Dr Mwenya Chimba (BAWSO) and Dr Teresa de Villiers (Cardiff University) and considers a recent study that has been undertaken jointly by the organisation\, Black Association of Women Step Out (BAWSO) and Cardiff University. The overall focus of the study was to look back at the number of children BAWSO have worked with who have been on the Child Protection Register with the aim of exploring patterns of registration\, de-registration and ongoing social work support. There is some evidence that BME communities may be subject to inappropriate and inadequate intervention in the child protection arena. The workshop content is intended to be of interest to frontline practitioners (both those in the statutory sector and those working with community groups)\, managers\, training and development staff\, and policy makers.Price: £15
