The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child. The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised. Practitioners and managers can be reluctant to address child welfare concerns because they fear being accused of racism\, intolerance or prejudice. Getting the balance right between cultural sensitivity and making Westernised judgements on child welfare is difficult. \nThe aim of this course is to raise awareness of cultural\, ethnic and religious identities when considering safeguarding issues within asylum seeking\, refugee and migrant families.
