SUMMARY:Visit to Cardiff Wales Airport
DESCRIPTION:As part of the equality impact assessment process for developments which are being planned at the Cardiff Wales Airport\, the Welsh Government is keen to engage with disabled people through a visit to the site. This will help inform the planning process for the developments from the point of view of disabled people.    \nIt is envisaged that this visit will involve a group of disabled people who are able to represent a number of types of impairments moving through the space\, and giving advice and opinion on current and planned facilities and their accessibility. Currently the plan is to run the session on the morning of Wednesday 15th January 2014. DESCRIPTION:Many partners from the third sector\, Communities First and  Learning and Careers advisors\, have asked to look at the facilities and opportunities throughout Cardiff and Vale College to give them an idea of what is on offer to their groups/clients. These include: Salons\, Restaurants\, Construction and Engineering Workshops\, Sports facilities\, Drama and multimedia studios\, Learning Centres and much more…. \nAs part of the NIACE Dysgu Cymru – New Year New Year campaign\, they are delighted to announce the ‘Learning Tour’. \n  \nThere will be a guided tour of the various campuses and facilities.  One covering the Cardiff sites and the other the Vale sites. \n  \nCardiff – 9.30am – Pick up from Trowbridge Campus (CF3 1XZ) – limited parking available  2.00pm Return \n  \nVale – 9.30am – Pick up from International Centre for Aerospace Training at (ICAT CF62 3DP) -parking available . 2.00pm Return \n  \nThis will culminate in a networking session and light refreshments and an opportunity to see the plans for the new campus at Canal Parade in Cardiff. \n  \nThe aim of the event will be: \n•          To promote participation in learning by raising awareness of the learning opportunities through a guided tour of the facilities at CAVC.  \n•          It will reduce the perceived barriers to learning at CAVC. \n•          It will raise awareness\, build relationships with key partner organisations who may refer to CAVC as a progression route. \n•          It will raise awareness of the facilities that are available for wider community use\, which reduces the barriers to learning and maximises the physical resource in the community. \n•          Facilitation of a collaborative event linking the third sector with the local Post 16 provider\, providing value for money and providing engagement\, participative and progression routes for learners and volunteers. \n•          It will provide a platform to inform future learning needs of participants and to maximise the resource outside of the traditional college calendar. \n•          It will provide a resource pack that participants and partner organisations can refer to for future learning opportunities. \n

DESCRIPTION:Two-day Diverse Cymru course \nMHFA (Wales) is a 12 hour course which is funded and supported by the Welsh Government and its partners include the Public Health Wales\, Health Challenge Wales and Mind Cymru. MHFA is in 21 countries in the world. The idea of MHFA is that people should be taught how to perform basic ‘first aid’ for those exhibiting signs of mental distress\, just as they are commonly taught first aid for physical problems. DESCRIPTION:VCS will be hosting the Cardiff Workshop for the GwirVol Youth Volunteering Grant on Monday 27th January.   \nThe aim of the GwirVol Youth Volunteering Grants Scheme is to support the delivery of a wide range of new volunteering opportunities in Wales and overseas that will support the step change in access to volunteering for young people aged 14-25 and especially for disadvantaged young people.  \nThe GwirVol grant scheme offers three different strands of funding:- \n1. Creating Opportunities \n2. Millennium Volunteers \n3. International  \nThe GwirVol team from WCVA will be presenting the workshop\, and there is more information on the grant process on the website at http://www.gwirvol.org/en/organisations/funding/ \n(Please note: GwirVol will only be holding one grant round in 2014-2015. Collections management and development is core to museums\, libraries and archives so through this initiative Heritage Lottery Fund wants to support the strategic acquisition of collections. \nThe initiative is intended to: \n – support the development of collections and their use through strategic acquisition programmes\, related research and public programmes; – enhance the professional knowledge and skills of staff working in museums\, libraries and archives – use strategic collecting programmes to support the funded museums\, libraries and archives to increase resilience as an organisation  \nYou can apply for a grant from £50\,000 to £500\,000. Collecting Cultures is a one-off initiative\, with one chance to apply before the deadline of 2 May 2014. \nThis event will outline the scope and aims of the programme\, running through the outcomes HLF believes Collecting Cultures projects will achieve.
